The Beta period is over now, though in a few months a trial is going to be released. I think if you can find a Del Taco code you can have several days trial.

To get in to the game though, you need more then just a quick taster... it doesn't really get going till you hit Lt. Commander in my opinion.

I would also think that a demo will be out in the next couple of months, also not until they've sort any remaining bugs.
