Last Christmas I read The Terror by Dan Simmons. I should probably read something more lighthearted this year.

It may not be Star Trek related, but the The Terror makes for some great wintertime reading and I highly recommend it.

Now I find myself really wanting to read Ice Bear! Holy Shit, Riker! Run Away From the Ice Bear! by Peter David.

Mentochickenman by Barbara Hambly also sounds good. So do Kirk Bangs McCoy's Daughter by Brad Ferguson and Collectible Plate by Dave Galanter and Greg Brodeur. And, of course, Four Authors? Awesome. by Carmen Carter, Peter David, Michael Jan Friedman, and Robert Greenberger.

Worth it.

Personally, I would question that ALL 19 Discworld books have to be read in order - though some are follow-ons to others. Start with 'Hogfather' (the X-massy book of the set), 'Small Gods', 'Pyramids' or 'Guards! Guards!', and just see how you go.

FWIW This reading order guide I found when I thought about getting more into Discworld some time ago only has four books listed before Hogfather in the series of "Death novels".

Yeah, that matches up with the character based reading order I've been following. It just seems like the easiest and least confusing way to read them to me.
