April Challenge--The Redemption That Could Have Been

OK, guys...here's your April challenge!

I thought this would be a good theme considering that some of us here have just celebrated Easter, a holiday all about redemption and second chances.

Many times we delve into universes that are twisted mirrors of the one we know and love, and see the evil undersides of the characters that we consider heroes.

I'd like to put a twist on that. How would you like the chance to redeem a villain? Instead of looking at a good guy's evil twin, your job is to write a story focusing on a bad guy's GOOD twin. What would it take to make your bad guy turn into a guy who really IS good instead of just faking it? What is it in that character that could have been, in a different universe or with a different set of choices? What is the character you choose like, when s/he lives according to good instead of evil? How does that affect the lives around them, or anything else?

Your bad guy may be a canon baddie, or one who's "canon" in your fanfic universe.

You must make the central character you choose a TRUE good guy--he or she doesn't get to fake it. ;)

Make this story as personal or as universal as you like...just redeem one villain, and make us really and truly believe it. :)

RULES:

Entries are due 30 April at 11 PM Central Daylight Time. (Not to be confused with CET--different time zone entirely!)

ONE entry only per contestant. Only submit when you're sure which one you want to enter!

You have 5000 words to play with.

Good luck!

(I won't be entering this time, because AU Dukat is the main character of one of my universes. I want to see what others do, exploring the good twins of villains!)

oh boy, i'll have to think on this one. I do have some "villains in training" in one or two of my stories, but none have really fleshed out yet.

An interesting challenge. I'm just really having a hard time imagining any of my villains in a good light. This will be tricky.

Yes. It must be a Star Trek universe. It can be an AU, but we need to recognize it as having some basis in Trek.

Wow. I could actually run with this, considering my new "break" from the Ezri Tales to tackle Section 31.

I'll see what I can do with this thing...but I'm unsure if I can get one cemented in time....

Here's hopin'! :)

Neat! But to do canon, or not...? That is the question! ;) I don't think I've fleshed out any of my villains enough, as Kaziarl said...

But I have another idea! Could it be a GROUP of villains, turned good? Or is it strictly ONE villain?

I was looking for an individual character study, I'm afraid.

But canon and non-canon from your fanfic are both acceptable.

BTW, just to make one more thing clear now before anyone's ideas get too far off the ground--by redemption in THIS case, I mean writing a story where your character NEVER was a bad guy (not a bad guy coming clean).

I looked at this challenge, then stared a the blank page, almost said forge it, and then beforei I knew i had an entire page outlined.

This is going to be FUN!

Oy, vey. There goes mine. Sorry folks...I'll probably wait for next month. :(

Oh I know. That was just the first idea I've had so far. I've always Liked Chang, both from ST6 and the way 14 Degrees East portrayed him in Klingon Academy.

How to write a Voyager episode where one doesn't actually hope that Janeway gets killed...hmm..
