Well I had a different idea rendering, which I might post later and see which gets better feedback, but here's a first idea:

Gad Klaus! You took the idea right out of my head....I was looking for decent shots from City on the Edge of Forever yesterday....trying to put a monolith in the scene.

I guess great Trek minds think alike! Good work!

I like the COTEF idea better, but integrate the elements more literally...the monolith IS the Guardian...the images/portal appear on the surface of the monolith, so when you step through, you're not walking thru a physical structure anymore, just literally walking into a time vortex.
