Why not?

I also have not been able to locate an audio out (ie headphone jack).
Not important to me but others are also asking why no camera or mic for video conferencing or VOIP.
Because of the lack of Flash and silverlight on the iPad. I would wager that's a temporary situation, (not the iPad's lack of Flash, but the content providers lack of iPhone/iPad support) but you always want to buy based on the ability of the device the day you buy it, not on what nerds speculate will come about later.

Look at the tech specs page... There's no camera, but there ARE both a headphone jack and a mic.

Thanks. Does Netflix need Flash, or just Silverlight?
^ And there's the big twist for me right there. I want a Kindle. However, the Kindle is way too expensive for me. The Apple iPad is about the same price and has more features and flexibility. It would be nice to see the Kindle pricing cut in half. Then I'd buy a basic Kindle.
At the risk of being wrong, what has Apple ever done "first?"You watch. Within a year people will be buying fake PC-based imitations of this and telling us why they are so much better than an iPad. They will declare this in derisive tones, calling iPad users "fanboys", etc. They will deny that Mac was the first, and point to a similar product by ViewSonic 5 years ago.
Not the personal computer... the GUI... the mouse... the MP3 player... touchscreen phone... tablet...
Okay, I was wrong about the YouTube thing, my bad. However, I still think it's silly to ship a product like this and have it unable to run Flash, regardless of how technology and standards may change in the future.
I guess my question is: Why not now?Okay, I was wrong about the YouTube thing, my bad. However, I still think it's silly to ship a product like this and have it unable to run Flash, regardless of how technology and standards may change in the future.
Every thing I'm seeing on line, it isn't a matter of may but a matter of when.
