Apple Mac's worst kept secret finally revealed

It iFails because that webpage kept freezing up my computer. There isn't even any animation. It is Apple trying to scan my computer to find out all about me.

one big fail... how? Keeping it a secrete or the product itself?

The product.

I mean, you have the iPhone, and you have the Macbook series. The iPad fits in between but doesn't really seem to fit in.

Who are they targeting this product at? Everyone here at work have says they have no interest in such a product, and almost half of them are solid Mac users/supporters.

There's nothing really new with this thing. It's much the same features (and interface) you get on an iphone... or a netbook. Except that you can't fit this thing in your bag. It'll need a lid/case to stop the screen getting scratched or dented, so it sounds kind of cumbersome to me.

edit: Maybe as a glorified writing/drawing pad... that's something new. Like kids at college wouldn't need to take paper notes if they could do it all digitally. Also, only one person needs to turn up for their university lectures now, as they could just copy the notes for their friends who can all stay in bed. :)

Dear God, they went with the "iPad" name. As so many on the MacRumors forum pointed out, it sounds like an Apple-branded feminine hygiene product.

I do not have an iPhone. I have an iPod Touch. This is bigger and does more, and it costs $500 for the 16G version, has ten hour battery life, and will be a lot of fun to play games on. I can get it all the way up to 64G. I can get it with 3G if I want, too.

I love my iPod Touch. It is a baby iPad now. It doesn't need to be a phone. I don't want it to be a phone. I just want it to be bigger, and now ... it finally happened. Yay!

My theory is that they were going with Slate, but Microsoft and HP poisoned the well, so they had to go back to a second choice (and "iPad" sounds like it came from the same level of hell as the original name for the iMac, "MacMan").

Ballmerman! *shakes fist*

The way I work now, there really isn't a place for it (if I want to do something that's too big for my iPhone, I grab my MacBook Pro). Maybe later, if I replaced my ol' desktop replacement with a new desktop, then there'd be a place for an iSlate* as a laptop replacement for when I need to work out of the house, or write outside, or surf the web during breakfast as a newspaper replacement or something.

*I'm preserving that because I literally typed it without thinking.

I'm a geek, I love gadgets, and I love SCIFI, and this appeals to me in both ways. I want one to play with.
