Apophis to pass by Earth on Friday, April 13, 2029.

freaky isn't it

so much for 2012 being the date we all die, now maybe instead it is 2029

Eh, at that range it should be trivial to send some nukes after it if the thing looks like it might threaten us later.

By 2036 we'll be able to tractor beam it into a path taking it right into the Sun. No more Apophis. Apophis will be a false god. A dead false god.

At that range, there's a risk of Replicators reaching Earth. We must be vigilant.

Indeed.

It's only an 820' asteroid? I always thought the thing was way larger the way the media played it up when this was first reported. Not while it's large enough to indeed do major damage; I thinl it IS small enough that it could be deflected by a variety of means if it's perturbed into a collision course with Earth on the 2036 return.

Of course, I'll be 73 years old at that point, so I may not care all that much at that point myself. ;)

That silly carter, she said they'd be here in 24 hours

Humph. By 2029 I'll have been retired for 15 to 20 years and gone through a zillion games of Civilization and probably racked up a few warnings here. Let it come. I'll have some beer on ice in the old age home waiting for it. :p

On the 13th each time. Anyone out there going to have their lucky rabbit's foot handy?

Not so lucky for the rabbit obviously...
