Apophis is on his way to earth

Linky

Specifically:
Precovery observations from March 15, 2004 were identified on December 27, and an improved orbit was computed. Radar astrometry further refined the orbit. The 2029 pass will actually be much closer than the first predictions, but the uncertainty is such that an impact is ruled out. Similarly, the pass on April 13, 2036 carries little risk of an impact.

Lets see...believe Wikipedia which uses info from 2004 or believe the OP link which reports on stuff recorded since 2004.

In either case, anyone notice the supposed date of Apophis? Friday the 13! Jason whacks a few teenagers, and Apophis might whack a country. Winner...Apophis...unless SG-1 gets to him first.

Read about this nearly 2 years ago, the rock will miss us both times bar a giant fluke of Earth's gravity in which the odds are well in our favour. When it passes up it will be closer than some satelittes and will be BIG BIG BIG in the sky but cool to watch ;).

If it did hit not a planet killer but we might lose a continent.

They had Michio Kaku popping around the news channels today about this story; that's how I heard about it. His opinion was that the 2029 pass will determine how bad the 2036 pass could be. Kaku said the x factor was drag caused by the earth's gravity / atmosphere / etc.

Of course, Kaku was still of the opinion that the asteroid would not hit us; but he also said there couldn't be certainty of it until after that 2029 pass.

The one true god is punishing us for harboring the Shol'va Teal'c. We must kill him and send his mutilated corpse through the chappa'ai to Chulak. Otherwise, our entire planet will pay dearly for our infidelity!

P.S. To all of you praying for the Ori to offer you ascension before it hits, YOU'RE NOT HELPING!

P.P.S. To the Wraith worshippers, I seriously don't understand what the hell you're talking about.

(On a serious note, when it passes closest to Earth, which country will get the best view?)

How strong is the gravitational pull of that asteroid on Earth? Are we in for some major earthquakes and vulcanic activity *cough Yellowstone cough* ?

Kaku was claiming that the asteroid would be the one affected by the earth's gravity due to its size. He never mentioned any ill affect on earth except for an impact.

Oh. Bugger.

Of course, I'm only saying this from a popcorn-munching perspective.
