"Apollo 18" film for March 2011

Seems as though this movie is based on a conspiracy theory regarding a supposed Apollo 20 mission sent to investigate a giant spaceship Apollo 15 photographed on the dark side of the Moon.
Ambitious of them to jump right to number 20. :rommie:

And I wish they'd stop saying "dark side of the Moon." It's the far side of the Moon. Dark Side Of The Moon is a Pink Floyd album. Of course, this guy also says this case is "intrigant..."

As for covering up a Saturn V launch, there's no place in the country that a Saturn V could be launched without being noticed, even in the remotest location. It's not like they fly straight up. :D Plus, a launch facility equal to Canaveral would have to be built, the rocket components shipped there and assembled and hundreds of people involved. The only way to cover up a Moon mission would be to claim the SV is being launched for some other reason, such as to place a really big satellite in orbit. :rommie:

... and even found and took back to Earth a dead alien!
The alien looked just like a killer whale, conspiracy theorists think a bunch of second graders from a little town in Colorado used a Mexican rocket to send it to the moon ... if you believe that sort of thing.

Yeah, they're going to have use the cover story that it's a different mission... hiding the launch is too silly.

But it doesn't...there is much to be gained by having a colony on the Moon.

As for the moment, there is nothing to be gained from a Moon colony. Yeah, the Moon has Helium-3, but it's of no use as long as fusion power is only experimental.

They didn't care about the smaller body next to it? Would've saved them a lot of fuel.

You know...I think you may have just invented a whole new lunar-landing conspiracy theory.

We really did go to the Moon...

...IT WAS SKYLAB THAT WAS THE HOAX!!!

There are many plausible pretenses one could use. Like trying to lift Bill Shatner's ego into orbit (but I doubt even a Saturn V has that much power).

Website that tells you all about the Apollo 20 mission, if it ever happened:

http://www.angelismarriti.it/ANGELISMARRITI-ENG/home-ENG.htm

The site has heaps of photos, videos, and interviews with people involved in the mission, including one of the supposed astronauts.

Anyway, it's very interesting as far as conspiracy theories go, so if you've got a few hours to waste, then this is the site to waste them on! ;-)

Well, it's kind of reasuring to have a conspiracy theory that says that we landed on the Moon more times than we actually did. Sort of balances out the Moon landing hoax nutters who grind my gears. What's amusing about the site is that the native English speakers that the site owner claims to have interviewed make the same sort of basic grammatical errors that he does as I presume a native Italian speaker (of course, these could be "transcription errors"). It would be interesting to see comparison photos of the same "object" taken by Clementine or one of the more recent probes that imaged the real Apollo landing sites.

As the subject for a movie, sounds great or terrible depending on how it's done. Could make a great alternate history yarn -- sort of like Stephen Baxter's story Voyage if they include a female astronaut in the mix.

The CSM and LM slated to be used on Apollo 18 were in fact used for Apollo 17.

The CSM for Apollo 19 is currently at Johnson Space Centre.

"Si, fly."

But what about the Apollo-Soyuz Test Project? Wasn't that considered "Apollo 18" by a lot of people?

OMG! Deke Slayton died of his irregular heart beat and was replaced with a Soviet extra-terrestrial!
