I like the idea of rock spiders. It reminds me of a scene in an old Arthur C Clarke novel, although that took place on Mercury.
Maybe they could do prequels that portray the secret, untold conspiracies that caused us to scrap the Mercury and Gemini programs!

Gotta agree. It was a decent movie that really went off the rails in the last 30 minutes. If you're going to go with the recovered footage angle it's probably a good idea to actually have a way to recover the footage (where the hell would the lunar orbiter footage come from?).I think what really did it in for me was the confines/cliches of the "found footage" approach. If they'd just shot it as a normal movie (they could even keep the scratchy/grainy film to add to the "period" look with no explanation necessary imo), this would have been much better.
