Apollo 18 Delayed to January, 2012

I like the idea of rock spiders. It reminds me of a scene in an old Arthur C Clarke novel, although that took place on Mercury.

this movie would follow under alternate history. which I love and I saw it last night fantastic movie.

I enjoyed a lot of it: the look, the story and I thought the two main actors did a decent job. I think what really did it in for me was the confines/cliches of the "found footage" approach. If they'd just shot it as a normal movie (they could even keep the scratchy/grainy film to add to the "period" look with no explanation necessary imo), this would have been much better. I'm thinking something with the mood of the original Alien when they were first on the planet. Which isn't really possible when the "footage" is being disrupted by crazy noises and garbled fuzz every five minutes.

As it is, I thought it was good but nothing more.

Ah, aliens...that explains why we discontinued the Apollo program. It wouldn't have had anything to do with boring real-world concerns like budget or lack of public interest with the subsequent moon landings...never mind that there were only a limited number of Apollo launch vehicles in the first place (such that the last being repurposed from its original intended use for Skylab maintenance to the Apollo-Soyuz mission contributed to Skylab's early demise)....

This fall coming to a theater near you: The thrilling tale of how boring real-world concerns like budget and lack of public interest led to the end of the Apollo program! In 3D!

Certain scenes are being altered for national security purposes. The men in black work really hard to keep this under wraps and won't allow it to be ruined by some popcorn movie...

I guess that we will just have to wait to January 2012 to see for ourselves.:)

The altered scenes were finished way ahead of schedule, hence why it was released now.

Maybe they could do prequels that portray the secret, untold conspiracies that caused us to scrap the Mercury and Gemini programs!

Gordon Cooper was pulled over by a Soviet capsule and got hit with a DUI charge. NASA then scrapped Mercury in favour of Gemini, as it allowed an approve supervisor to accompany the pilot.

There was also a secret followup Apollo 19 mission too. Unfortunately, Apollo 19 was also a disaster since these astronauts perished when they encountered Kryptonian renegades General Zod, Ursa and Non.

I found the movie enjoyable, though feel a more traditional storytelling environment would have been far better for the film. Being the space geek, I had some serious nitpicks - first being how the Command Module was in full comms for quite some time, then disappeared to com blackout for something like a day, on account of being on the other side of the moon.

I loved seeing the LK lander visualized on film.

The cosmonaut helment was great.

In many ways, this film reminded me of Robert Altman's "Countdown", the story of Project: Pilgrim and astronaut Lee Stigler's Gemini mission to the moon, only to find himself lost and then encountering other Lunar visitors.

On the whole, I enjoyed it for what it was, saw lots of improvements that could have been made, and got a date with my wife out of the deal.

*Deep underground*

Colonel Sander- So we all agree. We'll concoct a movie about Apollo 18 with aliens. The public will think it's so ridiculous they'll laugh at the notion.

I saw three people buying tickets to see this movie. I was tempted to tell them not to bother seeing it.

Those poor bastards! :rommie:

Gotta agree. It was a decent movie that really went off the rails in the last 30 minutes. If you're going to go with the recovered footage angle it's probably a good idea to actually have a way to recover the footage (where the hell would the lunar orbiter footage come from?).
