Apollo 10 Hears Space Music

Very interesting. It sounds like the same weird "earth sounds" heard around the world.

Likely to have been interference between the LM and CM VHF radios.

Michael Collins, the pilot of Apollo 11, says he also heard the noises when flying around the dark side of the moon but was told by engineers that it was just radio interference.

He said in his book, Carrying the Fire: An Astronaut's Journeys, that the noise started when the radios in both were both turned on and close to each other but stopped when the lunar module landed on the moon with Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin inside.

NASA's tumblr, which is a thing that exists for some reason, discusses it a bit. Particularly, it notes, it's not a new revelation since transcripts and mission audio have been available since 1973, although it's only since 2012 that the audio's been on the Internet and easy to find for yourself:

Their post include a link to a contemporary transcript. A better version's at the Apollo Flight Journal: http://history.nasa.gov/ap10fj/as10-day5-pt20.htm

The tumblr post does contain a link to a recording of the sound, if you want to listen to it yourself. Warning: it sounds like the world's most irritating hearing test.
