Anyone thinks Lifeforce was an interesting Sci-fi take on vampires?

I mean i think it's a unique take on the vampire mythology of doing something different to the vampire film subgenre for once instead of the same old thing. I love how it incorporates a brilliant concept of how a race of aliens came to Earth a thousand years ago and became the origin to vampires of many legends and myths including Count Dracula. I also like how it gives something different to vampires in the film especially the main lady not to be the mary-stu and gary-stu type vampires of having fangs and sucking blood, not being romantic (Dracula, Edward Cullen and Lestat), not being heroric (Angel), not being eurotrash or even undead creatures that burn when sunlight hits them.

But they still do obtain vampire-like qualities like being in energy crystals like coffins, they can become giant bat-like beasts with fangs and of course killed with spikes through the heart. Who else thinks the film is a refreshing twist to vampires rather than the Ann Rice, Bram Stoker, Twillight, True Blood, Buffy, Angel and other more vampire stuff we seen in the past to today?

But who else thinks the same concept was used in the Vampirella comics? the idea that vampires including Dracula originated from another planet.

It certainly was nice to look at, if you know what I mean. ;)

Wasn't it actually based on a book The Space Vampires?

There was a Quatermass and the Pit aspect to it, too.

The Haley's Comet aspect makes it dated, though. Also, the vampire creatures don't seem like an efficient lifeform, they'd exhaust their food supply too quickly.

I think it's a fun film.

Another product of a time when a lot could be done on a limited budget.

I think the second act seems a bit thin. It almost feels like there was more to the story about pursuing the female vampire that ended up on the cutting room floor.

But I love the 1st act, right up through the scene where the female vampire escapes. Totally pitch-perfect. And I also love the depiction of the destruction of London. It really stomps on anything Danny Boyle did. There's a frenetic lunacy to it that seems real.

And you have to like any film where a character says that Plan B is "sterilization by thermonuclear device". That's almost as cool a line as "Nuke it from orbit, it's the only way to be sure".

Honestly, it's better than the book (by Colin Wilson) which I found slow and talky. The movie is much more fun!

Mathilda May the sexiest woman EVER!

Liked the rest of the film especially Patrick Stewart (the bloody helicopter scene is awesome), great music and thumping finale as Kane fights his way through zombie infested London to save the day.

Best line; (to a group of soldiers sealing off zombie infested London)
Kane; Colonel Kane, SAS, I'm crossing the river
Sergeant; Oh you don't want to go in there sir!
Kane; I know I don't!

It was definitely interesting. It was also terrible. Didn't stop me from tracking down the DVD for my worrying large collection of 'movies I should know better than to like but still do', though.

I am another lover of the music. That theme tune is one of my favorite movie themes EVER. Mancini, you outdid yourself, mate.

Yeah, Mancini does a great job, it's thrilling, majestic, epic....I may have begun thinking about Mathilda May's body again:alienblush:

Re: Anyone thinks Lifeforce was an interesting Sci-fi take on vampires

I quite enjoyed Lifeforce, it also had plenty of great actors in it, plus the music and effects were also very good for the time.

Re: Anyone thinks Lifeforce was an interesting Sci-fi take on vampires

It had different "vampires", rather than traditional vamps with a pseudo scientific "explanation" (hate those). And tits.

Oh, and Patrick Stewart.

What's not to love?

I know exactly what you mean, and she was the movie's only redeeming feature.

When it first went out on my local ITV station the presenter (Paul Farrah, aka Swordsman Farrah in the Who story Androids of Tara) commented afterwards: "Well, I didn't think the vampires were all bad. She had a couple of good points for starters...")
