Anyone seen James Cawley of ST: Phase II in the movie?

Re: Jim Cawley?

He plays Kirk on an original TOS mock up for fan films... Logic suggests his ego is healthy and ample. ;)

Oh, there's no doubt of that. It's true of almost any actor or writer or most creative people - no matter how self-effacing we (okay, they) may or may not be as personalities. "Humility" means something different to a performer than to a Buddhist monk. But there's a difference between having a healthy ego and egotistical behavior, which is what ncc-1017-e's use of the term in that context connotes.

What the hell are you talking about?

Re: Jim Cawley?

When Spock reenters the bridge to suggest that he should be the one to beam aboard the Narada, at about 1 hour and 34 minutes in, Cawley is standing by the elevator holding a clipboard. He's in a gold shirt, with his hair flattened down.
Now I have two people to look for tonight--James Cawley and Randy Pausch!

Funny thing is, the way Abrams likes to frame things I believe Cawley is center frame and Quinto is off to one side - but the focus definitely is on Quinto anyway.
Good for James! The whole way he wound up in this film is a really cool mini-story... glad to hear that his moment of glory not only made it onscreen but also center screen! :)

I've seen the film four times now, and while I noticed Mr. Pausch I have yet to see Mr. Cawley :(

Let me chime in and say that Cawley's contribution to fandom in general and Star Trek in particular is a terrific reason to include him in the film. :vulcan:

Has anyone got a shot showing Cawley? I'd love to see it.

Cool, I'll have to keep a look out. I totally missed Randy Pausch too. :(

Re: Jim Cawley?

having forgotten about his cameo, I noticed him in both of my viewings and could not figure out why I knew the actors face!

Mr. Pausch is the officer who walks across the Kelvin's bridge and tells Captain Robau that they 'have a visual'.

Don't get me wrong I agree good for James! It is only fitting that he is in this film for no other reason than he and his team is trying to keep the original Star Trek alive! Someone needs to!

Re: Jim Cawley?

Haha, I noticed him the second time I saw the movie, its cool to see him. Congratulations James

Re: Jim Cawley?

Nope, can't say I ever noticed Cawley. I know who he is, but wasn't expecting him or paying attention to some background guys.

It only took me five times to see the film to spot Mr Cawley. :D

He's actually in two shots (three if you count the cut in one of them).

In the first shot he has to avoid bumping into Chekov (shortly before Pavel proposes to de-warp behind Titan.
The second shot he looks at Spock as he enters the bridge to confirm Chekov's calculations as correct.

In both shots he is holding an electronic clip-board.

BTW: Could it be that one of the Vulcan scientist working on the Jellyfish in Spock's mindmeld-flashback is Jeff Quinn (Spock on New Voyages/Phase II) (the one hunched over an open panel - camera right on the screen)?
