Re: Jim Cawley?
That doesn't add up to much of a case for him having an outsized ego, of course.

... Logic suggests his ego is healthy and ample.
What the hell are you talking about?... Logic suggests his ego is healthy and ample.
Oh, there's no doubt of that. It's true of almost any actor or writer or most creative people - no matter how self-effacing we (okay, they) may or may not be as personalities. "Humility" means something different to a performer than to a Buddhist monk. But there's a difference between having a healthy ego and egotistical behavior, which is the OP's use of the term in that context connotes.
Now I have two people to look for tonight--James Cawley and Randy Pausch! When Spock reenters the bridge to suggest that he should be the one to beam aboard the Narada, at about 1 hour and 34 minutes in, Cawley is standing by the elevator holding a clipboard. He's in a gold shirt, with his hair flattened down.
Good for James! The whole way he wound up in this film is a really cool mini-story... glad to hear that his moment of glory not only made it onscreen but also center screen!Funny thing is, the way Abrams likes to frame things I believe Cawley is center frame and Quinto is off to one side - but the focus definitely is on Quinto anyway.![]()

Supposedly he's on the Kelvin bridge at the start of the movie, but when I went to see Star Trek yesterday I didn't spot him. I'm going again tonight... hopefully the third time will be the charm.I totally missed Randy Pausch too.![]()

Cool, I'll have to keep a look out. I totally missed Randy Pausch too.![]()
Don't get me wrong I agree good for James! It is only fitting that he is in this film for no other reason than he and his team is trying to keep the original Star Trek alive! Mr. Pausch is the officer who walks across the Kelvin's bridge and tells Captain Robau that they 'have a visual'.
Nope, can't say I ever noticed Cawley. I know who he is, but wasn't expecting him or paying attention to some background guys.
