Anyone know anything about yahoo accounts?

I stupidly managed to register a @yahoo.co.uk email account, when really I wanted a @yahoo.com - with the same username obviously.

I've been told it's not possible to change it. The idea of terminating it and re-opening it has come up in conversation with others. Has anyone had any experience of closing an account and re-registering one with the same username?

I'm hearing two different reports. The first says that once a username is deleted, the same name can NEVER be re-registered. And another saying that it is indeed possible to re-register the same name after it's been deleted, although it apparently takes 90 days for an account to get deleted.

Anyone have any thoughts or experiences? It would really help, it's actually quite important that I have @yahoo.com as my suffix.

Thanks

I just ran some tests. I created a new email account at yahoo.co.uk and did a bit of research, and played around some. You're screwed, unless you can get an actual human being at Yahoo to intercede for you. There's no way to adjust this in account settings, a yahoo.co.uk account won't simply receive stuff sent to its yahoo.com counterpart (or vice versa - I thought it might, but testing says no), and it really does take 90 days before you can register with the same user id, even at the other tld.

Sorry. Good to know, though.

The thing is, if I have to, I'll wait 90 days... but I got this in an email from customer services:

"You will also be unable to register for a new account using the same Yahoo! user ID, even after deleting it."

which really screws me up.

But then again on the yahoo site it says (here: https://edit.yahoo.com/config/delete_user)

"Additionally, due to the limited number of names available, we may allow other users to sign up for and use your current Yahoo! ID and profile names after your account has been deleted."

So which is it? I can't take the chance of deleting my account and the username being totally un-recoverable.

I guess you're right that my best bet is to try and speak to a human at the company and get them to do me a favour. Even something as simple as adding an extra '0' to the end of my current username which will allow me to re-register the old one with @yahoo.com

Thanks very much for your help btw in testing etc, I appreciate it.

Experiment. Create a dummy account at co.uk. Delete it and see if you can reincarnate it at .com
