Anyone know anything about yahoo accounts?

I stupidly managed to register a @yahoo.co.uk email account, when really I wanted a @yahoo.com - with the same username obviously.

I've been told it's not possible to change it. The idea of terminating it and re-opening it has come up in conversation with others. Has anyone had any experience of closing an account and re-registering one with the same username?

I'm hearing two different reports. The first says that once a username is deleted, the same name can NEVER be re-registered. And another saying that it is indeed possible to re-register the same name after it's been deleted, although it apparently takes 90 days for an account to get deleted.

Anyone have any thoughts or experiences? It would really help, it's actually quite important that I have @yahoo.com as my suffix.

Thanks

Shouldn't .com and .co.uk be two completely separate things? Just try registering a new .com with the same user name.

If you're really adamant on getting whatever name you want for your e-mail address, you could also try out Gmail or Hotmail (which also has a Live.com option).

It won't let me because the username is allocated to me, regardless of country, it will only allow one email address.

Unfortunately the reason I want to do this is because I stupidly printed out a load of letters and business cards (which have now been set to hundreds of people) - all with the @yahoo.com address! Completely my fault.

I've been emailing yahoo support for days now, with them taking at the very least 24 hours to reply to every email. And even then half of them are standard replies.

That's not what happened to me: I was using my yahoo email account to register on a site and instead of yahoo.it I accidentally wrote yahoo.com.

I got an email from Yahoo (at my .it address) telling me that I could secure the .com equivalent for myself as well. If the .com is not taken yet, Yahoo will let you have both at the same time. That's what happened to me.

How strange, that's not what they've been telling me for days. I've spoken to three different people at Yahoo.

Maybe their policy changed? Can I ask how long ago that happened to you?

It was about two months ago, no longer.
I find it strange that they're being so difficult.

I'm confused though... so they sent you an email saying you can register the @yahoo.com address? And how did you manage to do that exactly? At the moment if I try signing up again it gets me to sign up for a username AND email address. And since my username is already taken (by me) I can't sign up for @yahoo.com

I would imagine that the username would remain taken forever.

Otherwise, as soon as the new person registers with the username they may start to receive e-mail intended for its original holder.

I didn't take them up on their offer, 'cause I didn't need another email account and was perfectly happy with my @yahoo.it one, so unfortunately I can't help you there.

My best guess is to try and do what I did, register at a different site using your email but writing @yahoo.com and see what happens and if they send you the same email I got. :)
