anyone know any good free cd recovery programs?

my computer got a virus a few weeks ago that wiped out my files. i had many of my files stored in dvd-r discs, but one of them just doesnt want to work/wont open/read the files...etc. I used CD Recovery Toolbox free but it didnt work, it didnt even recognize that the disc was in the player.

are there any other free trusted recovery programs out there? maybe any that work specifically for dvd r's?

I use CD Check. It has a high success rate, and I have recovered old archival CDs & DVDs from years past.

Have you tried cleaning the disc?

The surface on writable discs is very fragile, meaning that scratches on them are much more serious than they are on bought discs. You can abuse bought discs a bit, because they'll survive things that dvd-r won't. Even a light scratch or a fingerprint can cause problems.

ISOBuster sometimes works for this sort of thing. Or you could try the disc on another DVD drive. Some seem to be less picky and will still read DVD-R's if they start to go wrong.

sorry I havent forgotten this thread, I just have been dealing w/ some health issues this weekend & couldnt really get around back here til today.

well these recovery programs look pretty cool & I did download one of them(CD Check) but I have no idea how to use them, they seem to be for more advanced computer users. anyone know any easier to use programs? anyway thanks for the help.

The way your post is phrased, it looks like you are looking for help with a medical issue. However, this thread is actually about a computer issue. (A health issue was mentioned, but no details or symptoms were referenced at all, so that cannot be what you are referring to.) But if your mother is in fact dealing with a computer virus, and you are legitimately looking for information about that, please feel free to start a new thread.
