Anyone interested in doing a TOS novel "club"?

I'd love to join in the next one (may I suggest Strangers from the Sky) but I'm swamped with finals at the moment. Too bad, too, since Prime Directive is still one of my favorites even though I've not read it in years.

I just finished about 80% of my work for the term, so I'm going to spend the weekend reading Prime Directive. Never underestimate how good a Trek novel is for procrastinating that last bit of schoolwork one needs to get done. :-)

I'd be into Strangers In the Sky as well... Others I have in my pile that I'd enjoy reading include: Vulcan's Glory, Final Frontier, Assignment: Eternity, Doctor's Orders, Spock's World, The Lost Years, the Rihannsu books, the Crucible books, etc. etc. etc.

Sounds like fun.

I just finished Strangers from the Sky and just started Final Frontier. I recently picked up Enterprise The First Adventure, and Spock's World at the local used bookstore.

About 2/3 of the way through Prime Directive so far, and it's really great. I'm sensing a reset button's going to have to be punched at the end of the book, and am dreading that -- didn't some series of fanfic posit a similar sort of end to the 5-year-mission? Was that Alternate Universe 4? Sorry, it's been a while.

I am so dreadfully behind on this. So far, what I have read I have liked, except for the prologue. It was almost a turn off. Can't explain exactly why. It just seemed so bland and uninteresting, though chapter one helped redeem the book.

I am already getting anxious to see what the reset button is, so I have lots of reading to do!

After reading each destiny book in one sitting, I am having time prioritizing the time to do that for Prime Directive. Hopefully I can get through it this weekend so I can be in on the discussion.

Excellent. I finished it yesterday -- a lot of fun, and some of the ending was really well-executed, good ol' heartstrings-pulling stuff. Since this is a book that Bob Orci mentioned as being "character canon" for him when writing the new film, I'm increasingly excited about the new movie.

I'll create a new thread tomorrow for discussion of the book. Catch up!

Well, now that Csalem's got The Rings of Tautee, we can finally start that one. :D

I finally bought the book today! It cost me €5.99, €3.51 cheaper than a new release. The book was priced by the shop on the 12th November 2008 and checking the inside 'official' page, it is a first edition from May 1996!

I wonder if I should mail DWS and KKR and ask them to tell me when the receive the royalty cheque! :guffaw:

This book will have to feature in the reading club at some stage. Why, you may ask? I was in the bookshop yesterday and a new copy of the book was back on the shelf!!! The price tag said it was priced on December 16th 2008! Who keeps sending this book to Waterstones in Dublin?!! I'm not buying a second copy for novelty reasons, so if anyone wants this book you know where to go.

Ok, I know I'm like totally late into this thread... I'm down for the book club thing, but I'm going to have a hard time finding older TOS books. My book buying budget is pretty tight, unless I happen to get a book gift card from my in-laws (haven't done the gift exchange with them yet).

My public library system has a good scifi collection, but they don't keep much of the older stuff around. =P

I'd like to join up for the next one as well. I have most of the trek novels, so any you choose to read is fine with me.

Tranya - What is the next book in the club reading? And when does discussion begin? I'd like to join in!
