Anyone here been to the Science Fiction Museum?

I'm 22 and have lived in the Seattle area my whole life, but until a few days ago I'd never been inside the Space Needle. I went with my dad and brother, and had a great time. Anyway, also located in the Seattle Center is the Science Fiction Museum, which I went to a few months ago. I wouldn't say it's as great as the Smithsonian Air & Space Museum, but I enjoyed it and recommend that you go there if you get the chance. Has anyone here already been there?

Nope. Not sure why, either, as I live just down the road in Tacoma. Well, actually, thinking about it I was in the building for the 40th Anniversery ST thing they did a couple years back, but they had the exhibits closed that day.

Then again, haven't been to the Space Needle since 1980, either.

I've been there at least twice (and even worked it into the plot of my first 4400 book). It's definitely worth checking out.

Where else can you see Barbarella's crossbow, along various other cool sci-fi artifacts?

I almost went a couple weekends ago. I didn't feel like a drive into Seattle (I live in Vancouver, BC) just then, so I let Mom do the shopping she wanted to do instead.

I've been there four times, I think, being a lifelong Washington resident, besides my time spent at college. It's definitely worth at least one visit. I'm less enthralled by the EMP, but luckily you can get tickets to just see one or the other now, IIRC.

Yup! I went the day we got back from Seatrek 2007 (cruise/convention) to Alaska. I didn't get to see everything but I really enjoyed the stuff I did get to see.

Yep, I dunno, didn't seem big and complete enough. I don't even recall that there was a theater. I want virtual reality shit!

Sadly, its really more for the music side of the thing. When I was there last, they had a whole section of the sci fi part closed, due to lack of displays to show.

I saw it a couple of years ago (admittedly, I was mainly there to see the Gehry building...). I remember it as being fun but pretty small. I don't know how much it has changed since.

My wife went while she was in Seattle at a conference last year. She hates sci-fi, but she went because she knew I'd love it.

Actually, that's because they had a travelling exhibit about Jim Henson and the Muppets in there. Usually that's where they have the full sized Alien Queen from Aliens, among other cool stuff.

But, sure, I could stand to have the facilities expand. I don't care for EMP all that much, though I imagine it brings in more revenue than the SFM.

The Jim Henson exhibit was interesting, but I expected it to be...bigger, given the YEARS worth or material the Muppets and various other productions the Henson company has done over the years. Hm.

So they usually have more Sci-Fi stuff in the area the Henson exhibit was?

Yes. That space is usually devoted to more permanent exhibits. I'd still say the museum could be larger, though.

I've been there a few times and think its great. They have many unique items such as the original Captain's chair from TOS, which alone is worth admission. One of my favorite things is learning unique details, like seeing Hick's armor from Aliens. I always say this lock bolted to it when I watch the film but never knew why. Well up close you can see a heart painted on the armor, with a lock on top of it. Neat character detail that I would have never known if I wasn't 4 inches from the real armor.

The Alien Queen and loader are not there anymore (was there a month ago) The staff said Fox took it back. My hope is that they will bring in some BSG or new Star Trek items soon.
