Anyone have examples of what you think are bullshit tech that is being promoted right now?

I can't really see much of a difference between 4k and 1080p especially with older films shot on film.
The colour gamut and contrast are better with 4K that 1080p, but both the content and your monitor/TV have to be good quality and support both 4K and HDR. The situation isn't helped by there being six different types of HDR (that I know of): Dolby Vision, Dolby Vision IQ, HDR10, HDR10+, HLG and Technicolor. HDR10 is the most commonly implemented. In addition, the display has to be correctly calibrated to achieve the best image and hardly anyone is willing to pay for an expert to do that - I just fudge it myself until I'm satisfied. I see most improvement due to the HDR and not the resolution, possibly because even though I'm short-sighted, my colour perception is very good.

The Various HDR Formats are interesting.

Each one seems to cover a slightly different Area and have different PRO(s) & CON(s):
Since 2014, multiple HDR formats have emerged including HDR10, HDR10+, Dolby Vision, and HLG. Some formats are royalty-free and others require a license. The formats vary in their capabilities.

Dolby Vision and HDR10+ include dynamic metadata while HDR10 and HLG do not. The dynamic metadata are used to improve image quality on limited displays that are not capable of reproducing an HDR video to its fullest intended extent. Dynamic metadata allows content creators to control and choose the way the image is adjusted.
Apparently (HDR10, HDR10+, Dolby Vision, HLG) seem like the big 4 HDR formats.

HDR10+ seems to be a "Cheaper Alternative"(Financially) to Dolby Vision.

HLG offers backwards compatibility with SDR Displays, which is good for BroadCast TV's since you don't know what the consumer has.
HDR10 doesn't have SDR Backwards, compatiblity.
HDR10+ is backwards compatible with HDR10, which doesn't help with the SDR situation.
Dolby Vision has "Variable Backwards Compatibility" based on Profile, so SDR compat will vary based on implementation.

All 4x of the HDR formats support a maximum limit of Rec.2020/2100 ColorSpace which is good since that is the ITU limit.

Yes I do know the difference, I have a screen that's default setting is 1280x720 so yes I know the difference. But it's the way those words "full HD" are marketed that gets me sometimes. Visually I am not sure I can tell much difference when watching movies on either screen, they are both clear and vivid to me.

Clarity depends on the Encoding of the Source Material, Display Setup, how far you are from said Display, etc.

A whole host of factors.

Garden hoses, sunglasses and every thing under the sun is sold as full HD or HD.

They are just sunglasses, no batteries or micro sd card or recording capability.
