Anyone going to see "Rifftrax" version of Manos tonight?

It's playing tin theaters nationwide, tonight only, featuring what I believe is new, perhaps live, riffing from the good people at RiffTrax (the new version of MST3K).

Here's the synopsis:
The stars of Mystery Science Theater 3000 are coming back to select movie theaters nationwide for only one night to take on one of the worst films of all time: "Manos" The Hands of Fate. Join Michael J. Nelson, Kevin Murphy and Bill Corbett of RiffTrax.com on Thursday, August 16th for hilarious all-new riffing on a not-so-classic movie! This one night event will be your only chance to see the guys fire their wisecracking commentary at "Manos" The Hands of Fate on the big screen. Don't miss RiffTrax Live: "Manos" The Hands of Fate in select movie theaters Thursday, August 16 at 8:00pm ET/ 7:00pm CT and tape delayed 7:00pm MT/ 8:00pm PT.

Live? In several theaters? Will they somehow "broadcast" it like a TV signal? I know some theaters are steering away from traditional reel to reel film, switching to digital technologies. That seems about the only way RiffTrax can achieve this.

But it won't be quite the same. While it is the same trio from the SciFi Channel years, I don't think they'll play their roles as Mike, Servo and Crow; they'll just be Mike, Kevin and Bill. The "Shadowrama" silhouette is property of Best Brains, so no blacked out images of the "bots at the bottom of the screen.

Plus, I suspect the nearest theater to show it around here will be Atlanta. That's a 4 hour drive. No way to make it in time even if I knew which movie house.

Sincerely,

Bill

well, what do you know? I just checked the theaters in the next "major" city, Tallahassee, Florida (which is just 35 miles away) and one of the multiplexes is actually showing it at 8 PM!

I doubt I'll be able to make it, but I'm pleasantly shocked to learn it's within reasonable traveling distance! I figured only the fancy art theaters in places like New York, Chicago, Atlanta, etc. would show something like this.

Who knew? Well, you did, obviously.

Sincerely,

Bill

Too late to arrange things.

Hubby took me to "Phantom of the Opera" telecast live from London. Fathom Events has cool stuff.

I have a DVD with the MST3K episode featuring Manos: The Hands of Fate and it's hard to imagine they could improve on it. One of their best.

I had laundry I needed to wash, so, alas, I stayed home. But I did do something MSTie related. I spent some time working upon a 3D mesh of Gypsy an online aquaintence made. I broke down the mesh into parts so I could "rig" the "jaw" to open and close. I had already modified his Crow and Servo.

Sincerely,

Bill

Good, fun, night with a funny, funny revisit of Manos. (Including scenes not in the MST3K cut of the movie.) Preceded by two hilarious shorts. Look forward to the DVD for this but look even more forward to the Birdemic LIVE! event!

I only have my memories. And access to photos of a friend going out for Halloween as Torgo.

I would love to see the dvd of this as well but I'm not big on the live dvd's though. I prefer watching the riffed movies without audience laughter mixed in. I get that it's a live event akin to a music concert but still.

Yeah the LIVE DVDs are awkward to watch since the LIVE elements are still there. I don't know what it would take but it would be cool if it was done with the audience/stage stuff not so prominent. Maybe if it was just the standard way they make the discs to begin with.

I saw an article recently about the recently restored Manos. The screen shots of the restoration were pretty incredible, considering how cheaply it was shot in the first place. Did Rifftrax use the original version or the new one?

I'm jealous you got to see it.

They didn't use the "restored" version of the film due for release, but it was a cleaner film print of the movie than the VHS copy they used for the show. All things considered it didn't look too bad.
