Anyone going to a midnight showing May 8th?

After the way they treated Geoff Mandel, not even if they paid me.
Yeah, I read about it in the Trek Art forum. If this story is true, it sheds a rather unpleasant light on the people behind this movie.

Not really. Not really uncommon for people to be let go because of creative differences (And the reasoning is a bit lame considering that the ship IS more or less in scale with the original vessel.) As I said, I'm not even sure how much of that is the complete story by the way John more or less makes light of/jokes about it at the end.

Nope.
I'll wait and see the movie a couple of days after the premiere.

I'm going to wait even longer than that. I'll be checking this board closely before attending any movie theater. I swear if it gets tore up on the board I may just wait until the dvd release.....that's right I just said that.

I don't care what the board says.
I'll see it anyway.

Will I check the grading thread for the movie ? Sure
But no matter what the grades say, I'll still go and see for myself.
Being a Star Trek film, I am 97.5% sure I will be seeing it in the theater (although not the midnight premiere -- but sometime opening weekend).

For most films, however, I do go to 'rottentomatoes.com' and see what they have to say before deciding to see it. In general, if a film an extremely low number on RT, I won't see it. If it gets a 40+ I will read the critics' comments to see what they don't like about it (often the critics' reasons for not liking a film have no relation to whether or not I would like it). If it scores 50 and above -- and I was interested in it to begin with -- I will most likely go.

A Star Trek film will be different (since I am a fan). Even if it gets a 30 or so on rottentomatoes, I would probably still see it -- but I will base that decision on the detailed critics reviews, not just the raw "RT score". I also put a lot of faith in the "RT community" (regular people) in lieu of the professional critics.

This film would have to be considered "epically bad" by a concensus of critics and my peers before I decide not to see it -- and I just don't see that happening.

I'll see it opening night, and I am dragging as many of my friends there as possible. Most don't have to be dragged in fact, they are looking forward to it.

My plan is to go to the midnight showing on May 7th in IMAX.

It's possible that my plan won't go well and I'll end up seeing it on the evening of the 8th.

I will be working on the 8th, so I'm not thrilled about a late night screening. If there is a premiere attended by the fan club, I'll be there, since it'll be a good atmosphere. If it's just the common folk, I'll hang on for the weekend.

I've seen 'em all opening day--I'll be at the earliest showing in my area.

I'm really looking foreward to this one: I'll leave behind all my "should haves" and "I wants" and just be a kid (at heart) who loves Star Trek and can't wait to see Capt. Kirk and Mr. Spock on the big screen again. Bring it on!

I'll be there for the midnight showing & if it's as good as I think it will be a few more times. I did take that Friday off, can't say I've ever done that just to go see a movie.

I just hope every lucky bastard here who see's it early will be careful what spoilers they put in their Thread Titles. I don't want to see things like: Original Enterprise In Star Trek!, Shatner Is In It! or Spock Dies! You know?

Thanks for your consideration in advance.

Rest assured. My review will be a simple choice between
'Best Movie Ever'
'Great fun - Trek Lives!!'
'Good Sci-Fi action movie but not Trek' (my gut feeling at the moment, BTW)
or
'Rest in Peace Trek, been nice knowing you'

^^ Yeah -- They'll be careful. Their thread titles will be like:

"OMG! Old Spock Dies (Possible Spoilers)"
I don't know if you were here at the time, but I'm reminded of a thread posted some time in the middle of The Sopranos' run -- the title read something like:

OMG! They cut Ralphie's head off!!!

Needless to say, a few people were displeased at seeing this.

I'm going to the movie on May 8th. I'm just going to have to NOT come in HERE for a day or so before that!

Well, at least they didn't reveal that he wore a wig.
