Like checking that the email address she posted specifically so they could verify who she is matched the one on her website, then emailing her and asking.
Well, technically, I am an internationally known writer-- but "famous" might be pushing it just a tad. 
I think a more important question is whether or not there's anyone infamous posting here.

Not so, I think. To then activate the account, you would need actual access to that email address's inbox.
Such a person would not be able to reply to the email though, would they.

It wouldn't surprise me. I've seen a few good ideas on high profile (well, high membered) places, even jokes ripped word for word. I thought it was general paranoia until a joke I made was ripped off (even then I didn't take it seriously, but it was still odd)
