Anyone ever played Star Trek Dominion Wars?

i have this game
beat it many years back
just started it again, loving it!
controls suck, lot of compatability issues'
camera hard to control sometimes
but i got it working and love it


anyone ever played it?

Tried to years ago, could never get it to work. Buggy mess.

if u run it in compatability mode with windows '98 it works pretty well

some hotkeys dont work, camera is difficult
but it is fun
i wish they fixed all the problems
dont see how they found it suitable to release a game like that even the patches dont fix much

if anyone wants help getting the game to run properly i will tell you what i did

wish there were more levels!

It was a fun game. Buggy at times, crashed every so often. I have it but haven't played it in years. I think DS9: The Fallen came with it. That was the better game.

Yeah it was a good game which for me become unplayable just as i upgraded to windows XP, i remember they released a US patch to solve the problem but they never bothered release a EU/UK version......Bummer.

I had actually bought the game along with Starship creator II because Dominion wars would allow you to export ships you had created in SCII and use them i DW....it turned out not to be as open is i thought and you could only use ships created with a specific templates, no making ships of your own design..... and another bummer.

yes i got it with starship creator also although i was very unimpressed with that game and never made any ships for DW

the fallen was decent too
didnt like the non avery brooks sisko voice tho

I tried playing it a few times, but the controls were just wierd. Much like Star Trek Legacy, the only playable part of the game was Skirmish or instant combat mode. Story modes were not good.

I got it to play once and played it until the final mission. After the final mission, however, the game crashed and I could never get it to play again.

Yeah i used to play it all the time. Like people said upthread, if you used compatibility mode, it worked jsut fine. Was a really fun game.

Never got it to run past the incredibly boring opening video. Didn't come with Starship Creator either, contrary to the box.

I will post some very helpful (and unfortunately, very terminal) information I got from this very board many a year ago.

Star Trek: Dominion Wars relies on some instructions on older graphics cards (For reference, I played this game on a Geforce 4 Ti4200, which worked with XP on Compat mode, and a Geforce 6200, which didn't work with XP on Compat mode).

Personally, I found the game fun, if a little short on replay value (vastly outclassed by Star Trek: Armada, imho).

I always liked the battle damage in this game, by far the most beautiful of any of the other games, with all the crackling blue energy, ala TWOK. Haven't played it since moving onto Windows XP a few years ago. Still have it in the box, but doubt it'd ever play again.

It actually will run perfect and very fast on XP with a Radeon X850. That is the newest card I've gotten it to run on. It is very picky with just what vid cards it will work with. The company probably just wasn't very experienced and it shows....

I've also found that some cards that did work don't work with later drivers. Fun.

Finished the game back when it came and have tried once to get it working on my new machine since then. I have to say I had big hopes for this game and overall found it rather disappointing. If I remember correctly the Achilles micro-torpedo launcher array didn't even work in the game!

I have, It was good and worked fine with Compat Mode on a Windows XP, Hd Radeon 3650.
I just diddn't seem like a game to me, More of a Interactive Movie.

I used to play it now and then, but ever since I upgraded my Nvidia drivers, it refused to run. The game is now uninstalled and the game disc collecting dust on my shelf.

I found the game fun, and I liked the way officers could progress through the ranks. But far too many bugs spoiled which could have been a decent experience.

If I remember correctly the Achilles micro-torpedo launcher array didn't even work in the game!

The micro torpedoes will work once you have updated to version 1.04.

The problem is that some people might download the wrong local patch for their copy, or use the rather buggy 1.05 patch.

US version 1.01: need US 1.01-1.04 patch
Europe version 1.03: need Europe 1.03-1.04 patch
German version 1.03: need German 1.03-1.04 patch

DW need you have only one video card and monitor. If you found you have more than one in device manager, you have to delete them. However, some video cards just won't work with the game no matter how you tried.

I don't think I ever understood the controls. The game always worked fine for me though.

Does any one have it work on a decent nVidia card? It seems only work with ATi cards, but I would like some info from nVidia users.
