Anyone else wish we'd get animated adaptations of Trek novels?

After I first got into the DS9 relaunch novels, I immediately started wishing that the whole thing had been filmed. Sadly, though, that'll never happen. And even if it were possible, all the actors are way to old to play the characters, now. Nana Visitor was already older than Kira. How're we gonna explain Kira suddenly aging 10 years in the course of one year, and so on?

But while live-action is out, animated is still very much a viable possibility. I'd absolutely LOVE it if the DS9 relaunch novels were to get adapted to animated direct-to-dvd movies with the original cast providing voices. And that's just with the DS9 relaunch novels. I'm sure there're any number of novels that'd make for great animated films. So am I alone in this, or would anybody else like to see some of the novels adapted to animated films?

You are definetly not alone . Animated versions of any of the current trek-lit series would be most welcome. Off the top of my head, i'd love to see Destiny done as a nice mini-series, or as a "pilot" - type animated movie that launches into a TNG or Titan animated series. Animation = no visual limits and no extra budget money for special effects. Both the DS9-R or the VOY-R would also be very welcome. Paramount should jump on the bandwagon started by Lucasfilm's Clone Wars series. They must realize that with the success of the new ST film that an audience is out there, and we're craving new trek. Hopefully something will happen in the near future. Let's all keep our fingers crossed

We actually have a thread going in Trek Art where Sword of Damocles author Geoff Thorne is posting drawings of the characters done in an animated style. There was a thread in Trek Lit with a link to it when he first started, but it's been pushed down now.

I remeber someone wanting Countdown in cartoon form (far more likely than getting Nimoy to play Spock again live), and I thought it would be cool.

I always loved TAS. You can imagine my horror when I first saw Stargate Infinity!

^I'd be nice if they did an animated version of Countdown and then included it in the DVD/BluRay for the new Star Trek film, just like The Tales of The Black Freighter was made as a companion piece for the upcoming release of Watchmen. Since there is a Nero comic on the way as well as IDW's upcoming Spock mini-series (in the abramsverse no less ), it would be interesting to see any of these rendered as a short (or long )animated movie. Hopefully in the future...

Along these lines, I've often wished there were black-and-white sketches of the important characters in the book, especially if we've never seen them before. I realize that this is not the practice, but I'd greatly enjoy it.

I just wish we got more covers like the 5th and 6th New Frontier, and the Mission Gamma books. IMO that should be a standard practice whenever a new series comes out with an original cast. I'm hoping that since Titan has gotten through most of the on screen characters, that we might get some more original characters.

Well, we've seen Ree and Lavena, so that's something. Original illustrations for Orilly, Torvig and K'chak'!'op can be found on Christopher Bennett's website, if it helps. Plus there's now the animated stuff from Geoff. We know what Huilan looks like, too...

I've just added a sketch of Dr. Cethente to my Over a Torrent Sea annotations (based on a sketch Marco did for me), though my scanner's broken so I had to use my digital camera, so the image quality's pretty low.

Looking at it again just now, I had the thought that it looked like something that might've appeared in a TAS episode. I quite like that.

I've seen, and love, all of those. I just think it would be cool to see those characters done in the same manner as Aili on the OaTS cover. Although I guess it's to late for Orilly now.

Yes, I'd love to see animated versions of the main series (TNG/DS9/Voyager) and hopefully it would even branch out to the novel-only series (Aventine, New Frontier etc.).

I am wondering though...wouldn't it be cost-effective and more profitable to turn out animated series (like the clone wars or better) rather than full fledged CGI-based movies?

Most likely, and I would certainly rather see that than movies. It alows for alot more depth, and it would be easier to follow the books (if they chose too) when you can plot an arc around it instead of cutting it down to movie length.
