Anyone Else Find This Humorous?

Captain Clark Terrell

Commodore
Commodore
From Diane Carey's Ship of the Line:

"Morgan Bateson here. Welcome to the Typhon Expanse, Captain Spock."

"Good afternoon, Captain Bateson. This is Jim Kirk speaking."
Every time I reread this exchange, I laugh out loud. Anyone else find it funny? It actually does fit nicely with something Christopher has included in his novels.

Following the completing of the Enterprise's second five-year mission, Kirk returned to the admiralty due to a reorganization of the general staff following botched intelligence operations involving the Klngons and the Romulans. Kirk was made commandant of Starfleet Academy, and Spock took over as Enterprise commanding officer, with the provision that Kirk be allowed to use the ship as his flagship and commander her for official duty and special assignments.

To clarify, the last portion of the spoiler code about the conditions Kirk asked for were written by Christopher. I don't remember where I found the first pieces of information.
