Anyone else feel odd?

I get your vibe, Squig. It's always this way. Now we can never see it for the first time again. Now, for good or ill (definitely good, IMHO) we've had our payoff and there's once again nothing to look forward to except the abstract possibility of another new movie three-to-five years down the road.

I guess the next big Trek landmark will be the rebirth of ST:The Experience in Vegas in the next year or two. There's always something Trek coming down the Pike (snerk) but at this moment we're as far away from that as we've been for many years. It's a little disconcerting.

Think of it as that sleepy moment after an orgasm, and just keep in mind you'll get the chance to get off again, someday.

Meanwhile, I'm going to see it again tonite. And Saturday. Etc.

I'll watch it as many times as possible in the theaters, it's my first big screen Star Trek

but i get what you are saying, definitely. I also feel strange that Star Trek gets all this attention and media coverage. I love it, of course, but i also feel as if people were intruding into my secret geeky hideout

I felt the same when all of a sudden everyone knew what Lord of the Rings was about...

Yeah I was thinking of posting this thread. You're not alone. I walked out of the theater last night mostly thrilled but still slightly bummed that three years of rampant anticipation was now over. Really, all there is left to look forward to are the box office numbers.

And possibly Trek XII...

Well yeah, but that feels pretty abstract at this point. I also don't want to count my chickens. It still could tank this weekend

Star Trek' sequel on track

As Paramount Pictures readies the May 8 release of its "Star Trek" franchise relaunch, the studio is moving forward with a sequel, and has hired Roberto Orci, Alex Kurtzman and Damon Lindelof to pen the screenplay....

As soon as the movie ended I started looking forward to the next one!

The new movie was good but it felt very much like a "beginning". Now hopefully Kirk and Spock have stopped fighting and will set off on the five year mission. Have a scrap with some Klingons maybe.

I felt this way after the 2008 election. Looking forward to something for so long and then it actually happens. The movie is out there. It's kicking ass in a Robauian way and taking names. The worries that many had about the franchise after Nemesis and Enterprise's cancellation seemed to have been put at ease.

Am I alone? Please tell me I'm not.

Thats a great point. Now that the new movie is out it will be probably 3 years minimum until we get any new Trek on screen. Thats kinda sad to think about . I guess thats what happens when you only have a movie franchise and not a TV franchise too. We as Trek fans have been spoiled for a long time having the movies and the shows at the same time.

It's been 4 years since we got any new Trek and 6.5 years since a new Trek movie.

4 years doesn't seem like that much. But most movie franchises are kicking out a new film every 2 years or so.

Now my news will settle a bit. It has been absolutely insane recently and I still probably have a few more days of that.

I can relax.

And now, we can all pick apart the movie, whine about what we didn't like, enthuse over what we did like and have a grand time doing so!

Personally, I want to go and see it again, to pick up on things I missed the first go around.

And after that, we all start speculating on the sequel, if the box office warrants one.

I AM Fifty and felt Really Old when the movie ended the first time I saw it at 7pm...

It sank in even more as I was driving home from the midnight show, that Star Trek has now Changed Drastically and I'm probably gonna be one of those old curmudgeons stuck in the past with the Trek I grew up loving...

Don't get me wrong, this movie is a really wild and great ride, I enjoyed it immensely, but it only marginally feels like the Trek I know...

Not at all. It's kinda like exhaling after holding your breath for a long while.

Felt the same way for the election as well.

As I left the theater, I was more excited that a new era of Trek just started and I was there. I'm 38 technically not the target demographic, but not according to me. I'm as into it as when I was in high school watching TNG.

The end of BSG left me with sadness as it is over. This new Star Trek is a rebirth. "Let's see what's out there."
