Anyone else feel odd?

Most of us have been looking forward to Star Trek for several years. We've either wanted to see it succeed or see the reboot fail.

Now we have. Now what?

I felt this way after the 2008 election. Looking forward to something for so long and then it actually happens. The movie is out there. It's kicking ass in a Robauian way and taking names. The worries that many had about the franchise after Nemesis and Enterprise's cancellation seemed to have been put at ease.

Am I alone? Please tell me I'm not.

No, I'm going to continue feeling anxious about the box-office take. Plenty of time to feel odd in a relieved way after that.

That's exactly how I felt as I walked out last night, too. I was pumped and excited before the film, loved the film itself and felt a little weird after it was over. I guess that's the way it is for any highly anticipated event, be it a trip or a life change or a movie...

I just saw it a few hours ago and feel oddly drained. And yet wanting to see it again despite the difficulties I had with some of the events.

I do kinda feel odd. I want to see what is next. We finally get new Star Trek and I felt it was kinda short.

I feel very odd. But that might be because of the too-raw burger I ate yesterday in order to make it to the theater in time.

At age 30, the only the only way this film made me feel is old. The ending "Space: the final frontier... " scene felt more like a eulogy for what was than an invocation for what's coming.

A eulogy that was only reinforced by the young men I overheard in the rest room afterward. "Y'know, I ain't never seen no Star Trek before in my life. But I gotta admit, this flick was happenin." This movie was made for them, and they loved it.

Not being a part of Star Trek's demographic feels odd. And sad.

Well yeah, but that feels pretty abstract at this point. I also don't want to count my chickens. It still could tank this weekend

It's that terrific first date and you're waiting for the callback.

I can say my worst fear was realized; I want more on a weekly basis. It's gonna be a loooong wait.

Come on, that's not your age talking. You're barely 5 years older then me and I loved it. You're only as old as you think you are, so of course you're part of the demographic.

Totally agree.

However, the first thought I had when I finished talking about how awesome it was and how it exceeded my expectations: "The real test will be next movie."

I don't mean to imply this was an easy film to conceptualize, but it defiantly pandered to fans of both ST and JJ. There are a lot of possibilities for the next film and many of them are bad, especially if they try to remake anything. I kind of want to see what could be done with an alternate TNG timeline too, but that would be pushing it. I look forward to seeing where ST is going in any case.
