Anyone else annoyed at the dumbed down writing in ENT?

I would be annoyed if I thought the writing were "dumbed down."

I didn't.

I enjoyed ENT..

Sorry none of you apparently did.

;)

We can enjoy the show and still point out faults. The biggest fault was writing, and the most annoying fault was writing things they thought could slip through no matter how dumb. :vulcan:

^^ I'll agree with that. You don't have to love everything about the show unconditionally to be a fan of it. I was hugely entertained throughout Seasons 3 and 4 even when there were bits I thought were kinda silly. I enjoyed it. And I also agree that the actors really pulled it together. Even in TATV I thought Jolene B. did a great job with a sub-par episode.

I don't recall anything saying that they went to Academy at the same time, but they were both working on the Warp 2 project in First Flight. That's when Archer met Trip, and so they would have known each other - and been working together - for 8 years or so before Archer actually picked Trip to be his First Officer/Chief Engineer. By that time, Trip would have been the resident expert on and probably a main developer of the first Warp 5 ship.

As for education (although I typically ignore everything expressed in TATV), isn't it possible that Trip received his engineering training through Starfleet, and so did not go to a private four year college? I mean, the warp 2 engine may have been a specialized area being worked on only by Starfleet, so maybe they provided his education.

First flight contradicted something from season 1--there was a coversation with Trip talking about being on a training mission with Archer and like his leadership or something, can't remember. Archer might have been an instructor at that point though. The first time I saw First Flight, I thought--well there goes Trip/Archer continuity.
Training doesn't stop after boot camp, Star Fleet Academy (or its early equivalent) or whatever. In Desert Crossing Archer and Trip talked about their survival training in the the Outback; in Strange New World, Archer reminds Trip of a training mission in space when Trip had a bad moment and tried to remove his helmet. Archer stopped him. These events could have easily occurred well after FF in anticipation of their mission.

DS9 was very sophisticated IMO.

When that show ended and I was left with just VOY and then ENT, it was a massive let-down.

The difference in quality was immense. The highs of DS9 and the lows of VOY/ENT

Well, IMO DS9 gets its reputation from a small handful of "sophisticated" episodes late in the show's run. The vast majority of it was about on the same level of quality as Voyager, IMO, and in many cases, much worse.

And Sisko was just awful. I just could never take Avery Brooks' bizarre, performance seriously. He was either just speaking in a monotone apparently reading from cue cards, or he was jumping all over the set with this hammy, Shatneresque halting-speech style that seemed about right for a high-school theater production.

Just my opinion, of course. ;) But I'd take Archer over Sisko any day of the week.
