Anyone dislike Kirk's hair in the TOS movies?

I've never gotten a dentist vibe from Kirk in the monster maroons. His white short sleeve shirt in TMP, however...

Me neither, which I suppose is why I remember such an odd comment after all this time. The critic seemed irrationally upset that they had even made another Star Trek film.

That would have been David Denby in New York Magazine who has over the years used the phrase to slur Shatner. His review of TMP described Shatner as a "muscular dentist". His review of TWoK states that Shatner is "looking more than ever like a swinging California dentist in his tight-fitting space jacket" and TSFS review and TVH review again call him a "muscular dentist". His TFF review describes Shatner as "the muscular dentist who unaccountably wandered into acting" (wonder what he thinks of his Emmy).

What an odd, odd insult. I wonder what it is about Shatner that makes Denby think "dentist"?

One thing about Shat's toupee history that is inescapable. For all the time, effort, and production that went into keeping them realistic for the films (& they were, despite whether the styles were more or less appealing) One can only imagine that sharing the screen, in a torch passing capacity, with a successor who was not only grayer, but completely chrome-domed bald headed, could NOT have sat well with him, at all

I don't see why it would have. And Shatner and Stewart became friends while they were shooting Generations.

Probably the appearance of the Admiral uniform Kirk wore at the beginning of TMP. Denby then just ran with it as a an ongoing insult.

The Movie Toupee was very uncool.

It went a long way to create a disconnect between TV Kirk and Movie Kirk.

More than any of the other characters.

Think said this before somewhere but Kirk TJ hair is one of the elements that made the trek movies feel like the movies to me

I liked his hair quite a bit, the slickness of the TV series a little too slick and standardly heroic or at least much more suited for a younger character and television. It is a little awkward that he seems to age a lot between IV and V but the older appearance is still OK.
