It's basically like Age of Empires but online and it's free. I've been playing it a couple of days now and i'm hooked.

Be sure to follow the quests because they give you resources and gold if you do them at the right times.
Also under the quest section click on the daily quest section because every day it will give you a free Amulet which you can use on the wheel of fortune thing.

That's what I thought at first but after half an hour I managed to get my head around it.

I haven't played it, but I've seen various ads around, the first of which appeared to lift art assets directly from Age of Empires II. The lingerie model calling the viewer "my Lord" and inviting them to "conquer" was a subtle touch also.

yes they do want money but you only have to do that if you want to game to move along faster, if you're willing to just play it slow then you don't have to pay a thing.
For example it might take 30 minutes to build something, you can either wait 30 mins for free or pay money to acquire scrolls that speed up the construction time.

When you begin you get all sorts of different goodies for noobs and you get 7 days protection to build up your town and military.

Hm, ok, I just started playing, speed-up at least seems very valuable immediately. I'm guessing later on buildings and upgrades take forever to finish...

eta: but it's probably too late for me now, the game looks too cute to quit.

there's a parcel icon in the top left, click that and get your goodies. there should be some speed up scrolls in it. I'd save those for things that take longer to build though.

You're in a good position then, everybody in the game i've spoke to and including myself are struggling from lack of wood. It's the most valuable resource for construction and upgrades.

This is my little town so far, it's starting to shape up nicely, although I fucked up by wasting a lot of ressources with building and killing an army.
