Anybody here use 1Password?

I have heard very good things about this password management utility. Anyone here use it? If so, what do you think?

^ That was my first thought. And yes, I do. At work and in the internet.

As far as the app, what exactly does that do? If it's anything like what we have at work, PSynch, which is for changing all your passwords at once, no friggin' way.

PSynch screwed things up twice and I never went near it again. It locked me out of one area instead of changing the P/W.

1Password stores all the passwords that you use for the various sites you log into. And it can generate *strong* passwords for use on those sites.

Sounds like it would be useful, but for $40 nope. I like the idea of strong passwords and try to tell people to use them ( my nephew uses a pet's name for a password, which I told him was a bad idea).

I went ahead and bought 1Password, in both the desktop and iPad versions. And I'm glad I did. This is one of the most massively useful applications I have ever seen. I highly recommend it. As a password management utility, it's unequaled. And very secure - your info is protected by military-grade encryption.

a) I would never trust a program to manage my passwords.. what if it fails, screws up (as software is sometimes prone to do) or something else happens and i can't access vital sites anymore (and no.. i don't really rate Trekbbs as vital :p)

b) I also would never trust the advertising of a company out to sell its product.. "military grade encryption". If it indeed was military grade how come it's available for public use? ;) It's just a catchy phrase used to sell the product.

Anyway.. i do use only one password but no one knows it (not even my best friends or my family) and it's a combination of numbers and letters. Additionally i'm safe in the assumption that i really don't store anything sensitive on my PC or online.. so please hack me. All you will find are the contents of my PC (movies, TV shows and games) and some other, harmless, files.

The only possible way that you could not access your data is if you forget the master password you use to access it. And that password cannot be hacked.

Fails? Screws up? Those questions are meaningless. Even if the software won't work with some sites (which is true, for example any site that uses Flash to login won't work), it will still *store* your data and let you look at it. All the program has to do in that case is *launch*.

I would wager that you have bought plenty of products based on the advertising of the company that sells them. Argument invalid.

No, it's not just a catchy phrase, it is in fact real.

I'd suggest going to the site you want to visit and clicking on the option labeled "Forgot your password?"

It only takes one site to screw up and expose that password. Just like what happened at Gawker.

I use 1password, it was bundled in Mac Heist a couple of years ago, then about a year ago the pro iPhone/iPad version was given away free for a day so I picked that up. I've paid for an upgrade since then though because it's so useful.

^ You might want to try Dropbox as well. It's great for syncing your 1Password keychain among all of those devices. It also syncs anything else you want as well. Whatever you drop into your Dropbox folder on one machine, gets pushed to all of them.

^ Dropbox is awesome, I already use it for keeping my computers in sync. I haven't used the 1password Dropbox sync though, putting my passwords online (albeit encrypted) just seems wrong.

^ That's true but it still feels like a dumb idea to deliberately upload my keychain to the net.
