Anybody going to the inaguration?

I'm headed the other way -- getting the Heck out of town and flying west to Lake Tahoe for some righteously good skiing! *woohooo*

Cheers,
-CM-

Not sure how nice it will be. It hasn't snowed much this year. Still, have a great time.

Trust me... Anything out there skiing-wise is going to be better than the crappy little resorts around here! (That charge the same bloody prices for lift tickets -- go figure...)

Cheers,

I'm going back to DC in few days. I'm not sure what I'd do on the inaguration day. I'd like to avoid the insanity. The college is close to the Capitol Building, but just far away to avoid the insanity.

^ I'd stay away, if I were you... The whole District is going to be insane. Hell, the authorities/TPTB will be closing ALL bridges across the Potomac to vehicular traffic because of the expected crowd!  :wtf:

^just the ones coming in from Virginia will be closed as they all spill into that area.

auntiehill, HBO is free that day and showing all inauguration-related stuff. check that out as well.

I am going. I've got a ticket, so yeah, I'm going. wouldn't miss it for anything :)

The melee is a huge part of why I want to go. I generally hate crowds, but I love being a part of things like that. :bolian:

Agreed.

same here. I can't imagine living in the DC area and not going. I'd not be able to live with myself afterward.

^Exactly. You have the opportunity to be part of a major historical moment without even putting forth much effort or spending much money. I never even considered missing it.

HBO is free that day

Really? That's weird. .

Why is that weird? On that day global warming will end. The waters will recede and we'll never have to pay for gas again. And that's just a few of the things the unicorn hair is gonna get us. I can't wait. I see now that the media was right in choosing Him.

Is HBO free throughout the whole country that day? There's nothing on their website about this. Nor on my cable company's site.

In any case, I'd be expecting the inauguration - any one, not just this one - to be covered on ALL channels. What's HBO got up its sleeve?

All news outlets will be carrying the swearing in and ceremony. HBO has the rights to all the other events that weekend including an event at the Lincoln Memorial and a concert (I think) Saturday. The decision on whether or not to give you free HBO for the weekend will be ultimately up to your local provider.

Indeed yes. Plans for going are still developing, but my mother just supposedly got some tickets to the ceremony and she's giving them to me, so yay!

Damnit! I'm stuck on the mall surrounded by millions of Obamaniacs.

Need a date? I promise to keep my hands to myself. ;)

And a word of warning to people coming from out of town. If you're planning on staying in Virginia, you HAVE to take mass transit. Secret Service is shutting down all the DC/VA bridges and Interstates 66/395 inside the beltway.

So, just imagine the worst thing ever and multiply it by 1000.

Already have one. :p

Surprised they're not shutting that down too.

Yes, they're going to shut down public transportation so that no one can get anywhere at all. :cardie:

Why the FUCK would you even begin to think that they would do that? What possible logic can you be employing? I'm genuinely baffled. Do you think they don't want anyone to come?

I'm disappointed. You failed to work in the words "Installed" and "Socialist." What if you're audited? :(

My apologies. I was attempting to tell...what is the word...hang about, I've got it...(ruffles through thesaurus), ah, there it is:

JOKE: story with a humorous climax

Humor...it is a difficult concept. It is not logical. :p

(seriously though, I didn't actually think they would do that, but I have heard rumblings about paranoia such that the Metro might be a target)

^Exactly. You have the opportunity to be part of a major historical moment without even putting forth much effort or spending much money. I never even considered missing it.
^Now imagine living four blocks away and assing out at home "lurking" in on that history. What will I tell my kids? I'm not an Obama fanboy, but only a professional assclown can deny its historical nature. Some extreme cynics or political zealots just can't see that it's not just a moment for Obama or Democrats, but for the country.

Say what you will about what the policy will be, but the inauguration of any president is a moment in history and this one is among the most historic. With having to live through a historic recession, migraine inducing wars, Islamic extremism and a crumbling infrastructure, it's nice to have one good historic moment.

At a time when our list of great accomplishments is growing thin and cynicism has become the number one virtue, the country did a good thing. It may or may not be good for the country in the long run, but it is a good thing in itself. And that's worth celebrating.

Kids: Dad, where were you when America got its first black president?

Dad: At home, just chillin'.

Kids: What? You were like around the corner! You blow, dad.

Dad: I know, kids. I know. Now go clean your room!

Fortunately, we get to choose when we go and don't have to buy any of that expensive ass shit they'll be feeding people or brave the crush of people at all the eateries. I'm hoping my nephew (19 months) will appreciate the moment later on in his life. He certainly won't get what all the fuss is about now.
