Anybody going to the inaguration?

I'm going back to DC in few days. I'm not sure what I'd do on the inaguration day. I'd like to avoid the insanity. The college is close to the Capitol Building, but just far away to avoid the insanity.

^ I'd stay away, if I were you... The whole District is going to be insane. Hell, the authorities/TPTB will be closing ALL bridges across the Potomac to vehicular traffic because of the expected crowd!  :wtf:

Cheers,
-CM-
Yeah, The closest intersection (Florida and New York Avenues) is supposed to be closed around there. But I've been up here in North country of New Hampshrie so I'm not so sure I'd be interested in having some quiet time- it's so damn quiet and boring up here!

^Exactly. You have the opportunity to be part of a major historical moment without even putting forth much effort or spending much money. I never even considered missing it.

Why is it such a major historical moment? Happens every four years, last time I checked... *shrug*

Then again, I hate politics as well -- ergo, the ski slopes are the place for me. Either that or a (good) winery... like out in CA.

Cheers,

Really? That's weird. .

Why is that weird? On that day global warming will end. The waters will recede and we'll never have to pay for gas again. And that's just a few of the things the unicorn hair is gonna get us. I can't wait. I see now that the media was right in choosing Him.

I'm disappointed. You failed to work in the words "Installed" and "Socialist." What if you're audited? :(

Well, "choosing Him" - "Installed". meh And I don't think I've use socialst since Bush pushed for the bailouts.

BESIDES, this is a fun lighthearted thread. With free HBO! (or is that BHO?)

My apologies. I was attempting to tell...what is the word...hang about, I've got it...(ruffles through thesaurus), ah, there it is:

JOKE: story with a humorous climax

Humor...it is a difficult concept. It is not logical. :p

Oh. Sorry, I missed all the funny. Hmmm. Wonder why. :vulcan:

(seriously though, I didn't actually think they would do that, but I have heard rumblings about paranoia such that the Metro might be a target)
The Metro is always considered a possible "target". It's DC. Everything is a possible "target".

Ok, apparently people are breaking out all sorts of completely unfunny humor. I'll assume you're doing the same and aren't actually blind to the historical significance of the inauguration of the first African American President of the United States. If I'm wrong, well, all I can say is that I feel sorry for you that you suffer from such a profound strain of cynicism.

Auditors have no sense of humor. Or cable. :(

I'm on the opposite coast, and while the festive atmosphere of the crowd is appealing, I doubt I'd be able get anywhere near where the actual action is taking place, so it's not really worth paying for the trip and dealing with everything in the immediate area being all booked up. So I'll be watching it on TV.

Depends 100% on me getting a ticket. Still no ticket, so plans to spend the 4 day weekend in Ohio are still on.

They're clamping down on air traffic as well. Normally movement is monitored but relatively unrestricted within the Air Defense Identification Zone, and only verboten within the Flight Restricted Zone. But on the day in question, they're banning all Visual Flight Rules traffic within the ADIZ and only allowing IFR flights from the outlying airports (and scheduled commercial flights of course).

^The ceremony generally begins about 10 AM and the swearing-in must take place by Noon, so you get to sleep in. ;)

Well, the swearing in doesn't technically have to take place by noon...as Obama automatically becomes president when Bush's term expires at noon. He does have to take the oath but he doesn't have to take said oath before he does anything else.

same here. I can't imagine living in the DC area and not going. I'd not be able to live with myself afterward.

I wish I could go. I live an hour away. It's too late to make any plans now, obviously, so I'll be watching from home.
