Anybody done a "Deg" with TOS interiors?

I was thinking about Deg's incredible take upon the Enterprise ("No bloody 'A', 'B', etc..."), demonstrating how just subtle elements of detailing without totally reshaping the structure can make it worthy of of presentation upon an IMAX movie screen.

That begs a question. Can the equivalent be done for the interiors? Has Deg, or anyone else for that matter, attempted a similar notion for the more commonly depicted areas of the ship, the bridge (natch'), sickbay, engineering, or the corridors? How can one keep the same structures and proportions without severely reshaping them, but make them worthy of the "big screen"? Example, the large relatively featureless wall panels that line the corridors, might one round the outer edges (what's the term, chamfer or filleting?) and position the occasional "release clamp" just glimpsed under the edges to suggest they can be removed for maintenance? Maybe given a slightly "brushed" finish rather than a matte white? Would adding "seams" to the deck (implying they can be lifted) be going too far? No, I'm not saying we go for the now almost cliched "grilled" deck plates that vent steam or project noir styled shadows from under-deck lighting, just something that prevents one from thinking it's just a concrete studio floor.

I'm not "tasking" anyone to attempt this, though if my comments inspire anyone to envision such, well great. No, I'm just asking if anyone has already tried and is willing to share images of their work. I realize this would be a monumental project.

Sincerely,

Bill

Though I haven't actually done such a thing, I actually intend to start just such a project. I'd be interested too if someone's beat me to it...

I started to model an "updated" version of the TOS bridge a couple of years ago. Got the outer shell and outer ring of consoles mostly finished before it got set aside for other things. It's on my go-back-and-finish-someday list. ;)

Given all the other work I've seen of yours, that would be most impressive!

Sincerely,

Bill

Yeah Vektor, you're reimagined TOS E is the major inspiration for a rather lengthy project I'm in process with myself. I too would love to see what you've come up with.

Well, deg did it a little bit himself with that one shot from inside the shuttle bay. But yeah, I wouldn't mind seeing a bit more along those lines.

The files for my revamped bridge are archived. When I get a chance to track them down, I'll post them, though there's not much to look at where I left off.

Your "works in progress" are better than some people's finished efforts, certainly my humble putterings, anyway. I look forward to your designs. :D

Sincerely,

Bill

I'm not sure if this is quite what you're looking for, but back when the first pictures of the "iBridge" came out I had a go at making an updated bridge (and a couple of rooms) that were more faithful to TOS's design aesthetic (shiny white walls and lensflares just don't do it for me :P, the Enterprise is colourful, gorram it!)

I thought it'd be neat to see an updated "classic" bridge. As much as I love toggle switches, buttons and rocker switches, it'd be cool to see the original bridge layout...same color scheme, button layout, etc, with touch panels and more practical stuff on the screens that usually have "blinkies" on them.

Okay, I dug up the old model converted it to Mental Ray and ran a couple of fresh renderings:

By the way, I didn't create the console graphics, I just happened to have a set lying around that I slapped on there as placeholders. Ultimately, I would want to update them along with everything else.

I'm glad I got to see it with old school placeholders tho!

Aah! Ho, ho, ho! That's really slick1 And you did something I too had considered, a thin "border" around each station, similar to what we saw in "The Cage" bridge. It also appears (though I realize I could be mistaken) that the dark "plate" above each station may be some kind of large display that can depict multiple "windows" (again a motif implied in "The Cage").

I know you are juggling several other projects, but I think we all would like to see this developed further.

Sincerely,

Bill

Unfortunately for Vektor, we'd like to see EVERYTHING he does developed further. :guffaw:

But, you know, the inspiration comes when it comes...if it ain't there, it ain't there. I just hope at some point the bug bites and we see this thing done.

I really enjoyed the 2009 movie, but was disappointed that the bridge set wasn't more along the lines of this. It looks great!
