Gabrielle is riding up the Mountain, when suddenly someone shoots an arrow into her horse’s neck.

The horse falls to the ground as Gabrielle rolls free.

Her hand is on the katana's blade as she looks up and sees her Nemesis in every sense of the word, draw his own weapon and hold it high.

Samurai: “You’ll come to regret not allowing me a warrior’s death.”

GABRIELLE: (Shouts back as she draws her own sword and reaches for Xena's urn.) “It’s not too late to put that right.”

Samurai: [Yells] “I will not allow you to find the fountain and revive your friend.”

Combat begins, first with their katanas, then hand to hand. Both quickly become disarmed in this eaqually matched contest but more importantly, the urn that is nestled into Gabrielle's left arm gets kicked UP and AWAY... flying through the air to land a good twenty feet away on a trail that tops their current mountainside fighting ground.

Gabrielle turns and starts leaping up the mountain side, over huge boulders with her nemesis close on her tail.

They stop and start putting on a kick boxing demonstration before both end up on that upper trail.

We see the urn laying on its side, the top still tighly afixed as Gabrielle punches and kicks the Japanese General standing between her and the urn.

FINALLY the knocks the guy out and he falls backward onto the ground and...

OH CRAP!!!!!

As he falls his outstretched arm hits the round urn and sends it rolling down the trail, straight for the side of the mountain!

Gabrielle runs like a greecian gazelle but can't reach the urn before it falls off the cliff.

GABRIELLE: “No-o-o-o-o! No-o-o-o! No!”

Gabrielle is hanging off the side of the mountain, looking for the urn with Xena's ashes.

Against all odds, unless you are a TV superhero, the urn has fallen about 20 feet, into the center of an eagle's nest.

GABRIELLE: “Oh.”

Gabrielle looks perplexed, as she considers her options.

Little does she know, a hawk is winging its way to Mount Fujisan, carrying a very disagreeable character.

Although we see the hawk make the approach to the upper mountain ridge, its Yodoshi's foot we see actually make contact with the ground. The one armed demon walks across a high peaks "meadow" and stands at the base of a high stone wall.

He has the ghost killer's katana in his remaining hand, and shoves it into a "keyhole" above his head on the rockface.

We see an owl and a chickdee winging their way across the sky.

The owl arrives first.

As Yodoshi turns the katana, the mouth of the fountain some 30 feet above him starts to flow...

...filling first the hollowed out basin about the fountain itself before it can flow over the side and drop down to the demon.

Yodoshi is eagerly awaiting its power restoring goodness at the bottom of the rockface when suddenly a redgowned warrior spirit arrives and not only grabs him but tosses him far away from the fountain/against a boulder. He katana goes with him but falls 10 feet away when he hits the gound.

As he rolls on the ground to her far right, a chickdee lands across the "meadow" and simply watches.

Xena stands at the base of the rockface, looking up eagerly and not a little impatiently.

XENA: “Come on. Come on!

JUST as the water starts to flow over the edge, 30 feet high, Yodoshi's mind clears enough to blow a cold wind which freezes the cascading water AND blows Xena away from the rockface.

Our Warrior Princess flies about 20 feet away, rolling as she hits the ground, stunned but conscious.

The chickdee transmorgifies itself into the form of Akemi, and she walks forward gingerly to pick of Yodoshi's/Harukata's fallen katana.

With Katana held high, she walks towards the demon lying on the ground. She killed the man... but can she kill the ghost?

Yodoshi: “What?! My own daughter?!”

Before she has a chance to behead the demon, he exhales and blows the little mouse far across the meadow.

Akemi: [Yells]

Xena sees Akemi fall to the side, and considers her options. Yodoshi is still weakened and lying on the ground. The ghost killer's katana is with Akemi, and the fountain of strength is frozen.

She jumps up and runs for the fountain where she tries in vain to reach up and grasp the end of a frozen icle from the fountain.

(I guess Warrior Spirit's can't jump as high as Warrior Princess's, and I guess she doesn't notice the logs next to her that could reach and knock one of these down... but HEY! It's just a story, so lets just go with the flow... okay?)

Yodoshi's no fool, and he sees what our heroine is attempting, so the demon of the elements exhales a FIREBALL at her this time, knocking our Warrior not just across the meadow, but literally A$$ over teakettle.

XENA: [Yells]

As she flies through the air a SECOND time, she hits her head on a boulder and is knocked out!

But the damage is done... as for as Yodoshi is concerned, since Xena's outcry was heard by a blond woman hanging over the edge of the mountain, looking at a bird's nest.

GABRIELLE: “Xena?”

With barely a thought, she jumps up and runs across the mountain top, presumably stopping first to find her own katana.

Yodoshi is still writhing in pain on the far right side of the fountain. He notices several of the fountain's icicles have fallen a few feet away from him, and he elongates his tongue like a snake and scoops them up.

With renewed strength he stands and watches as his right arm/hand rematerializes in the blaze of fire.

Gabrielle has finally found Xena, half conscious, lying on the snowy ground.

GABRIELLE: “Xena? Xena.”

In mere moments, Gabrielle is at her side, cradling her soulmate's head.

Yodoshi is looking around, and he sees Akemi across the meadow, with the katana still in her hand.

Yodoshi: [Inhales]

As he inhales, she's picked up like a tourist in a hurricaine, and is slowly drawn towards him.

Slowly, because the young woman... actually she's more like an old ghost... the old ghost has driven the katana point down into the ground, and using it as an anchor.

The problem, however, is that the Elemental Yodoshi will not be denied, and he keeps sucking until the girl is out straight and the katana itself is being pulled along the ground towards Yodoshi.

Meanwhile somewhere far to the left of the fountain, a warrior princess regains consciousness enough to crack a joke.

XENA [Weakly]: “Told you I’d see you here.”

But to the far right of the fountain, another drama continues and for a few moments a small rock saves Akemi as it acts like a "chuck" under a car wheel, but alas the rock itself moves aside and she's sucked into the jetstream entering Yodoshi's body.

He grasps the katana before it too enters, and turns to give a satisfying belch.

Gabrielle looks around and sees the water that Yodoshi's fireball thawed and has now flowed into the lower pool in the midst of rocks at the base of the rockface.

She runs to the pool and leans over to cup a handful of water into HER mouth.

Yodoshi sees what she's doing, and knows it must be stopped!

Yodoshi: [EXhales yet another FIREBALL, directly at Gabrielle's back!]

BOOM!

The fireball hits Gabrielle, making the Battling Bard of Potadiea throw out her arms as the shockwave hits... but DOESN'T hurt her.

The fireball then rebounds of the burning/glowing Dragon that protects the woman, and hits the demon with unimagined force, pushing him far away.

Gabrielle is as stunned as the demon as she turns around, grapsing the rocks for support.

She staggers away from the fountain and falls upon the semicomatose form of her soulmate.

Gabrielle is no fool. If Xena knew what she was about to attempt on her own, undoubtaedly she would object, so as soon as Xena's distracted by the darklord, the blonde runs away. When Xena turns back from Yodoshi's challenge, she finds she's talking to air.

Much as I'd like it in a way I think the time has passed, the ending was so powerful it seems a shame to ruin it

I forgot to mention, Yodoshi has recovered from the fireball bounceback from Gabrielle's Dragon tattoo, and is now standing upright with his katana in hand.

Yodoshi: “Enough of this!”

Xena whips her head around to see her Nemesis, just as Gabrielle runs away to complete her part in this quest/mission just as Yodoshi turns himself into a tower of fire the launches itself high in the air.

Realizing that Gabrielle is gone, Xena puts on her gameface and twists HERSELF into a tower of fire, to meet Yodoshi on his terms.

Eventually Xena's fireball reforms into our Warrior Princess, and she twirls about, looking for the darklord as the forest behind her burns...

From somewhere on high, Yodoshi divebombs on her but she hears him coming and sidesteps to safety.

...their katanas blocking their wills as Yodoshi decides to do some very UNfortunate trash talking.

Yodoshi: “You are about to join the 40,000 souls you condemned, Xena. And the first thing I’ll do-- is take the head off your little friend with the tattoo.”

XENA: “You won’t live that long.”

Speaking of Gabrielle, she's literally hanging off the mountain with two hands, her right foot trying desperately to hook itself under the urn lying in the bird's nest. The angle of the rockface will not allow her to climb down anyfurther.

The katana clinch between the two undead finally ends, and Xena kicks Yodoshi once again from the field of battle. As he flies backwards through the air and hits a tall pine tree, she TURNS HER BACK on her enemy.

Back he bounces, coming for her as she kneels down in classic Xena:WARRIOR PRINCESS fashion and drives the katana behind her, straight into the demon flying at her.

We watch Yodoshi's face turn from triumph to one of pain...

Speaking of a woman with a job to do... Gabrielle manages to KICK the urn up out of the nest, hackey sack style, and catches it against her body with her right hand as she holds onto the rockface with her left.

DON'T ask me how she manages to climb up that damn rockface with one hand, since she sure can't expect to place the urn in her blouse for safe keeping without it rolling out the huge hole in the back.

Back to Xena... as she pulls her katana from the darklord's torso, then twirls around as he watches, and neatly beheads him! (That's the third beheading this finale, for those of you keeping track!)

Once beheaded, we see the souls he captured over the last 42 years, escape.

Speaking of escape... Gabrielle obviously made it up the rockface and back to the high peaks meadow where the fountain of strength lies.

She throws the chakram backhanded and fells him with a direct blow to his forehead.

Since she STILL hasn't granted him the ritual beheading... I think we can safely say he didn't get what he desired most!

Tears begin to well in Gabrielle's eyes, as she tries to find a way around the karmic debt collector.

GABRIELLE: “But if I bring you back to life-- ”

Xena's more forceful now, and you can almost hear her soul straining under this additional burden.

XENA: “Those souls will be lost forever.”

The tears threaten to spill over on Gabrielle, and she can no longer look at Xena so she turns away. For her part, Xena's been well controlled until this moment... and we see the tears pool in her eyes as she watches Gabrielle struggle with the knowledge she herself has carried since her dawn tete e tete with Akemi.

Finally Gabrielle turns back...
