Any Xena:WP fans on the boards?

I have to say I agree with Renee on this one. There is no "Gabrielle" TV show .... without Xena.
What I want to know is how Rob Tapert planned to bring Xena back in the telemovies he contemplated during the final run of Xena.
There is a line in the director's cut (haven't got there yet) where Xena suggests a way that she "can" come back when talking to Akemi. Again, I suspect that line was there to lay the foundation for the "RETURN of XENA: WARRIOR PRINCESS"
Alas... it was not to be. After years of "will they or won't they" teasing at the conventions, the youtube vids and articles over the last 2 years have firmly come down on the NO side. Not just NO... but if there ever IS a YES it will be without Lucy and Renee.
Now, don't get me wrong... I loved the rebooted Star Trek movie... but then again Those PTBs were recasting characters who's orignal actors were 78 years old when that movie finally premiered!
I don't want to wait 36 years for this title to be revisited.
I see no reason to recast these lovely ladies, except to say their bodies probably would NOT appreciate the grueling fight scenes anymore.
IIRC, Harrison Ford used to say every Indianna Jones movie put "10 years" on his body!
Of course, I'd love it is they just filmed that LA MIller fanfic I posted a few pages ago, set 20 years after Xena's death. But we know THAT's never going to happen.
I wouldn't mind an "In Search of Xena" movie a'la ST's 'In Search of Spock." and can see Gabrielle teaming up with Eve, Virgil and Varia to rescue her soulmate. Heck we can even have Ephiny and Joxer team up with Xena on the astral plane.
Alas again... no Ares. That's one role I refuse to let them recast!

XENA:Warrior Princess the director's cut
This was the "last week on Xena" intro to the broadcast version of FIN...
Narrator: “Previously, on Xena:”
XENA: “You saw Akemi.”
Kenji: “Xena, you must save Higuchi from destruction.”

Kenji: “Who was that demon?!”
Akemi: “The lord of the dark land.He’s preparing an army to wage war on Higuchi-- and slaughter the populace.”
XENA: “At least 3 armies are gathering.”
Harukata: “Only-- another Ghost-- can trap-- a spirit as mighty as Yodoshi.”
XENA: “I just wanted you to know everything I know.” XENA: “Let’s go. We got a battle to win.”
(Aside: and I thought act 4 of "When Fates Collide" didn't have much dialogue!)
ACT 5 (Teaser to the broadcast version of part 2)
Xena watches Gabrielle walk away into the mists... and she turns to do the same, in the opposite direction.

Next, we see a familiar set of armor lovingly being placed into a shallow grave.

Gabrielle and Kenji, along with their warriors are standing in the middle of an empty and very QUIET forest.

She hears war horses carrying the guard for the precious wagons, and hears even more soldiers come into the area of battle. She even hears a familiar horse that she knows carries the General whom she met at the water tower.

She runs up a fallen tree as if it were a ramp, and can look down upon the killing field with deadly accuracy and within 20 seconds she lets 10 of them fly to deadly consequence.

Then she seems to "ski" down that tree screaming the famous Xena yell as she uses up her remaining arrows.

As his men are falling, the unmounted General stands and starts ordering his men about. The cadence of the drums has switched from slow and steady to quicktime.
Xena has dropped the now arrowless bow and has run away to reassess the battlefield.

Suddenly 2 phalanxes of 3 spear carrying soldiers charge her and she catches the ends of their spears and breaks them off, the metal tips landing in the ground around her feet. She then KICKS each spear head, sending the first two into the chests of the soldiers about her. the third she kicks HIGH, then as it falls towards her she does a wicked round about kick, sending that spear head much further... towards the General commanding the troops. He sidesteps and catches the flying weapon, but he's still not happy. Xena still lives!

And then something strange happens.
Something (IIRC) we've never seen or heard before.
In fact, it reminds me of a line from the first season of Star Trek Voyager..." Then I die happily with your name on my lips."

She's NOT calling her friend, she's calling upon her courage to face what must be faced by bringing to her minds' eye the focus point that she's carried for so many years.

These two shows really were challenged by the health of their stars. Lucy fractured her pelvis in 4 places, while practicing a stunt on Jay Leno's talk show in the middle of Xena's second season... and 1-2 years later Kevin has the aneurysm with three associated strokes.

Its fun listening to the audio commentary on this half of the episode (part 2). Unfortunately only part 2 of the finale has commentary at all, and only the 2nd half of the video commentary is listed on youtube, so we miss most of their comments.

When Renee wondered what he was talking about, Rob explained how they puit Lucy in "ski bindings" and had her sail down the tree shooting arrows. It WAS a cool shot, but I'm with Lucy on this one. If you can't see her from the chest down, why NOT brace her?

Later, as she watches Yodoshi use his firey arm as a whip to toss Xena around then strip her, she commented on how "cool" this looked when she first read the script.
Speaking of whipping Xena around the teahouse... Rob points out that the scene of Xena on fire as she flies through the air was prominent in the movie "Double Dare", a documentary of Xena's stunt double Zoe Bell. I've seen it and recommend it... I think I watched it last year on Hulu.
Evidently this episode with rife with injuries. Not only THIS one with Zoe, but the actor playing Yodoshi broke his ankle, and the one playing his general tore his achilles tendon.

IIRC Lucy prefers the orginal chakram, but I agree with you, that second one was just too sexy!
I liked it when it would split itself in two, but I think they gave up that "skill" after "Legacy".

A comment on the audio commentary. Rob Tapert is fairly apologetic during th commentary on the broadcast version of the 2nd half of the finale (part 2) re: what they as PTB's didn't have time to spell out. He felt the audience never understood the anklet called Yodoshi to the teahouse. He also noted in various spots of the commentary that the script for the finale was "hurt" by the "Sappho musical" that was eventually scrapped, and the time taken to craft its replacement ("Many Happy Returns"). Later on he will be just as apologetic as his faults as a director in various places.
Lucy is just funny to listen to during the commentaries, because this is one of the few times she's actually sat and WATCHED the show all the way through, and she's often making comments on her own acting. (As with many actors, they can always find FAULT in something they did. As the saying goes, hindsight is 20-20.)
In the scene that ends act I of part 2 or act 5 of the director's cut, she complains that Xena looked surprised when she found Gabrielle in the forest.
"Hang on! Why is she surprised???"

Again, the problem with watching the show and commenting THROUGH it is that you miss things.

Miss things like the fact that Xena was LOOKING for someone to help her fight Yodoshi. Xena is surprised to find Gabby because she ISN'T the person Xena was looking for!
Speaking of commentary, when Xena's nude ghost first enters the teahouse and is dressed in those neat red robes, Renee makes the comment that she loves seeing fabric on screen, and Rob complains that its the devil to shoot properly.

As they watch Xena float towards Akemi with the red robes out behind her, Renee notes "well THAT looks great" and Lucy admits, 'Yeah, but thats one of a hundred takes!"

Makes you understand why at the end of this next "behind the scenes" vid, Rob talks about which parts of the scene they'll be leaving for the 2nd unit director and Xena's double!
Lucy is just funny to listen to during the commentaries, because this is one of the few times she's actually sat and WATCHED the show all the way through, and she's often making comments on her own acting. (As with many actors, they can always find FAULT in something they did. As the saying goes, hindsight is 20-20.)
In the scene that ends act I of part 2 or act 5 of the director's cut, she complains that Xena looked surprised when she found Gabrielle in the forest.
