Scene 6

Akemi: (Very impressed!) “When you listen to the Kami like that-- you must be at peace.”
XENA: (Eyes fly open and she turns to her student) “The Kami? What’s that?”

Akemi: (Just call me Obiwan Kenobi!) “The Kami are the powers behind all nature. They make the sun shine-- the grass grow. (This is the most impressive insight in her philosophy.) They brought you to me.”

XENA: “No, no, no. When I listen like that, I’m at war. Every sound is a possible warning of an enemy approaching.”
Akemi: (The little mouse will not be swayed!) “I believe that one day, Xena-- the Kami will help you know peace. And I would be honored-- if you would accept this.”
Akemi hands Xena a scroll covered with Shuji (Japanese Calligraphy). Xena is just so "cute" here... holding the scroll stretched out, turning it one way then another and even looking at the blank side of the scroll before trying to accept it... gracefully.

Akemi: “It’s our script. When my people are overcome with a feeling that needs to be preserved, we write verse.”

XENA: “Oh, yeah? Like what feeling?”

I am 6'2 and she looked me in the eye's while standing. and I so tried to keep my eyes at her face cause she was wearing this low cut thing and she had done her hair bloned. I wish I had a digital camera.

XENA: “Well, they’re just gonna have to get used to it, aren’t they?”

With his first swing, the Sensie’s katana cuts Xena’s sword in two!

XENA: “Ooh, Gimme, Gimme.”
[Fight continues… as she punches out the Sensei and then goads his young muscular assistant to challenge her with TWO swords.

She bobs and weaves away from his spinning weapons, and simply KO’s him with a punch to the face. BOOM and down he goes! A huge guy comes after her and she just side steps him.

The next guy was just as easy to knock out as the old Sensie, with one fist straight to the face… but the third one... the third one is that HUGE guy she previously sidestepped. He was so hard to knock out that after four right left combinations which still left him STANDING, Xena LOOKS at her fist as if to ask… WHAT’S wrong with you? Of course, then she winds it up and smashes him a fifth time and FINALLY down he goes!
But the most telling part of the fight, for those Xena nitpickers who always want to know EVERTHING about a character; is almost lost in the dark lighting of the forge’s set.
Two huge men have now grabbed Xena and are about to throw her into a wall of spear tips… but she braces herself with her foot before the closest spear over her RIGHT BREAST can fully penetrate her chest.

Using her foot she pushes herself and her attackers away from the wall of weapons and elbows first one guy and then knocks away the other before she flips up onto a table/workbench to get away.
Unfortunately, this table has many swords lying on it, sharp side up so she must make a complex dancing/jumping routine to kick her attackers without cutting off her own feet!
Sadly for one attacker, after she executes a perfect 10 dismount from the sword table, she kicks one of them ONTO the sword table and we hear the blades cut into his black. Ick

As Xena finishes off the remainder of the Sensie's men, the Sensei decides to go after Akemi who holds him off with her parasol long enough for Xena to come swinging across the forge to the rescue. After she’s knocked the Sensei down for the count, she stands to briefly check on Akemi before stalking across the forge to her REAL goal. The sword!

[Fight continues… as she punches out the Sensei and then goads his young muscular assistant to challenge her with TWO swords.

She bobs and weaves away from his spinning weapons, and simply KO’s him with a punch to the face. BOOM and down he goes! A huge guy comes after her and she just side steps him.

The next guy was just as easy to knock out as the old Sensie, with one fist straight to the face… but the third one... the third one is that HUGE guy she previously sidestepped. He was so hard to knock out that after four right left combinations which still left him STANDING, Xena LOOKS
at her fist as if to ask… WHAT’S wrong with you? Of course, then she winds it up and smashes him a fifth time and FINALLY down he goes!But the most telling part of the fight, for those Xena nitpickers who always want to know EVERTHING about a character; is almost lost in the dark lighting of the forge’s set.
Two huge men have now grabbed Xena and are about to throw her into a wall of spear tips… but she braces herself with her foot before the closest spear over her RIGHT BREAST can fully penetrate her chest.

Using her foot she pushes herself and her attackers away from the wall of weapons and elbows first one guy and then knocks away the other before she flips up onto a table/workbench to get away.
Unfortunately, this table has many swords lying on it, sharp side up so she must make a complex dancing/jumping routine to kick her attackers without cutting off her own feet!
Sadly for one attacker, after she executes a perfect 10 dismount from the sword table, she kicks one of them ONTO the sword table and we hear the blades cut into his black. Ick

As Xena finishes off the remainder of the Sensie's men, the Sensei decides to go after Akemi who holds him off with her parasol long enough for Xena to come swinging across the forge to the rescue. After she’s knocked the Sensei down for the count, she stands to briefly check on Akemi before stalking across the forge to her REAL goal. The sword!

until they are swinging at a storefront awning. They release in time to land and BOUNCE off the awning, turning matching back somersaults through the air until they land on the roof of a nearby building.

GABRIELLE: “This way!”
I think Gabrielle likes being “on top”. She grabs Xena then runs along the top of the building until she hops through a open window in a nearby (taller) burning building. For reasons I don’t understand, Xena ends up on the burning building’s roof, and is shouting for her missing partner.
XENA: “Gabrie-e-e-e-e-elle!”
A warrior is starting up a ladder below Xena. The ladder doesn’t extend as high as her rooftop. The ladder ends in an open window 1 story below Xena. Unbeknownst to Xena, Gabrielle has appeared in that window.
Warrior: [He Screams...]
...As Gabrielle kicks over the ladder he’s climbing up, landing him in the fire down on the street level.
Now… the ladder is balanced perfectly like a “teeter totter” (aka “see saw”), and Gabrielle jumps on the nearest end before her partner, two floors higher sees and understands completely. Xena flips end over end and lands on the far edge of the ladder, her weight on Gabrielle’s lever easily flips the smaller blonde across the square onto the balcony of yet another building.

After looking at the ladder, (I think this is the only time in the series you can actually SEE LL’s stunt double Zoe Bell’s FACE in this show) Xena continues flipping over the pole, gaining speed before releasing herself. Meanwhile, Gabrielle has run towards the same pole ...

Yodoshi’s General {who wasn't seen in the broadcast version at this point} has ridden into the courtyard to see the flames fade under the unexpected deluge and looks up at the two foreign women on the water tower. One suspects that Yodoshi has warned him about the brunette.

GABRIELLE: “This way!”
I think Gabrielle likes being “on top”. She grabs Xena then runs along the top of the building until she hops through a open window in a nearby (taller) burning building. For reasons I don’t understand, Xena ends up on the burning building’s roof, and is shouting for her missing partner.
XENA: “Gabrie-e-e-e-e-elle!”
A warrior is starting up a ladder below Xena. The ladder doesn’t extend as high as her rooftop. The ladder ends in an open window 1 story below Xena. Unbeknownst to Xena, Gabrielle has appeared in that window.
Warrior: [He Screams...]
...As Gabrielle kicks over the ladder he’s climbing up, landing him in the fire down on the street level.
Now… the ladder is balanced perfectly like a “teeter totter” (aka “see saw”), and Gabrielle jumps on the nearest end before her partner, two floors higher sees and understands completely. Xena flips end over end and lands on the far edge of the ladder, her weight on Gabrielle’s lever easily flips the smaller blonde across the square onto the balcony of yet another building.

After looking at the ladder, (I think this is the only time in the series you can actually SEE LL’s stunt double Zoe Bell’s FACE in this show) Xena continues flipping over the pole, gaining speed before releasing herself. Meanwhile, Gabrielle has run towards the same pole ...

Xena is pelted with a snowball, and turns towards the thrower in time to see him spit too. She merely takes a drink from her flask and spits it back, "as if" she cared!

She looks ahead at the long wide stretch of icy street that leads up to a set of stairs, and one can almost feel her frustration at the ice and the shoes are more of an issue to her than the angry popluace gathering about her.

Fight begins as the crowd bears down on weaponless Xena. She grabs a torch from one attacker and flips Akemi's urn to her right hand as she waves the torch to push the crowd back. The fight gets more hands on and eventually Xena is jostled enough that the urn flies up and out of her grasp...

Despite Xena's desparate leap forward, she can't catch the small urn and it hits the icy street and busts open. Xena lays there, Akemi's ashes literally blowing through her fingers, and she snaps!

Like an animal she growls at the crowd and swings her torch back and forth to keep them at bay. Finally she stands up and realizes she ISN'T weaponless.

Taking a large mouthful of the alcholic drink, she puts the torch in front of her mouth and blows FIRE like a dragon of legend!

Several unfortunate men are engulfed and they run away towards the nearby buildings.
The buildings catch fire, and as the crowd runs away, Xena just smiles and walks down the street, drinking her brew.

I remember sitting in the movie "The Color Purple", and half way through, turning to my friend to ask, "Can anything ELSE happen to that poor woman in this story?" and darn it didn't the writers triple the woe we'd already seen unleashed on poor Celie's head.
Kenji: “Akemi told me that after she killed her father, Yodoshi’s spirit was so full of evil even the underworld would not allow him to enter. He became Lord Yodoshi, the eater of souls. The 40,000 lost spirits were at his mercy. Now he holds them inside him, enslaved.”

I'm not a fan of vampires, so I tend to stay away from that genre. I did like it in season 4 when Xena made a reference to "Buffus the bacchae slayer".

Xena slumps slightly forward as Gabrielle shakes her soulmate.

Xena looks down and wipes the blood from her upper lip before giving Gabrielle her famous tomboyish grin.
XENA: “There’s nothing to understand. I just wanted you to know everything I know.”
