"Forget me Not" the B story...

Don't get me wrong.

I liked Joxer in this ep, I just had an agenda last night and he would have been a distraction.

I loved it when she told him to "stay here"... and he counted to three and said, "Long enough."

I laughed when the Priestess felt the pain of his recent fall out of the tree... "Owww", and teared up slightly when she told him if he loved her, he needed to let her try and lose her pain.

And I cried a little for him, when he realized that he wasn't foremost in her thoughts when she wrote those scrolls, and when they first met all she could see was the fool.

I even wondered, how much he was making up, when he read the scrolls to Gabrielle, and how much he was "repurposing"...

Joxer: “Yeah, yeah-- it gets better-- lots better. 'Then I realized' that’s you talking, 'then I realized that I was completely taken by this handsome, mysterious, dark leader of men.' Hmm.”

Hmmm, indeed.

I granted him his moment, to give himself a chance to be her hero... and I laughed aloud when Gabrielle jumped him at the end...

Forgetful Gabrielle: “By the gods, I am so incredibly in love with you. I wish I could feel that again.”
Joxer: “Yeah, so do I.”
Forgetful G: “Take me, Joxer, now. Like the time, just before you saved Ulysses.”

Laughed because OF COURSE, after the first series of kisses, Joxer's moral compass overcame his lust and he did the gentlmanly thing.

He fessed up.

Joxer: “No. N- no. N- n- no, no, Gabrielle. Look, I, I elaborated a little bit on some of the things I told you about you and I, uh a little a little bit lot, lots. Well a lottta littles. I lied.”
Forgetful Gabrielle: “You lied. What’s a lie?
Joxer: “A lie is me thinking I could give you back all your happy memories. I’m just not a part of those, and I really wanted to be. Look, I didn’t rescue Ulysses, that was Xena. And I didn’t get Ares back his godhood. That was Xena, too. And I didn’t convert Hercules back from being evil. That was well it was complicated. And Callisto’s not my love kitten, but look, Gabrielle, I just want the old Gabrielle back, you know? The one that used to smack me on the forehead and gouge out my eyes, and just forget everything I’ve told you. It’s not who you are. Except the part about dancing nude in the rain that is you.”

Gabrielle: “Joxer.”
Joxer: “Jerkst-- hey! Ahh!”
Gabrielle: (She grabs his nose) “I have never, nor will I ever dance in the nude in the rain with you anywhere near me.”
Joxer: “Gaby-- you’re back! (Gouging continues as previously requested) Ahhh! Ow. Oh.”

:guffaw:

King Con;

Appalling! A strong contender for the worst ever Xena ep. Enough said.

When in Rome;

An awful lot better, love the Pompey/Caeser dynamic and Gabby shows her ruthless side. I just can't think of Vercinix however without thinking of Asterix the Gaul&co

Forget Me Not

Weakest of all the clip shows although a great performance from Ares, once again we see that when the two are divided one will inevitably end up with Joxer. Quite interesting that Joxer fantasises about having Callisto as his 'sex kitten':lol:
So, it was Ares who got Gabby to China before Xena. I remember reading a very out there fanfic where she 'pays her fare' in a much more erotic manner. I'm not convinced of the Ares/Gabby subtext although you can see hints of it here and there, not least in this ep where he's actually pretty seductive of her

Jayne: You know what the chain of command is? Its the chain I'm going to hit you with!

Worst of all eps?

Perhaps you are forgetting, "The Play's the Thing"????

:guffaw:

I can't see Callisto being ANYONE's sex kitten, much less JOXER'S!

Well. "maybe" Xena's.

Euuuweeee. :barf:

Forgot who she was reincarnated as....

Ares & Gabrielle?

Loved the line, "You are sooo NOT your Mother."

No, in War Stories Jayne and co watch Inara kissing her beautiful female client and that's what prompts Jayne's 'I'll be in my bunk' remark, then Zoe arrives and says "Jayne, grab your weapon' because Wash and Mal are overdue from their deal;)

And in the ep with his blushing bride (Loved Inara's "don't play a player" line) ... Mal tells Jayne to "go get Vera" so they can shoot down the "necklace" trap the hijackers are using to capture their ship. :rommie:

I LIKED "Warrior .... Princess", and I liked it not because of the tried and true story of the pauper and the prince.... I liked it because of Lucy Lawless' expressions

I said this about "Warrior Princess" last November, and I gladly stand by it for this next episode... especially regarding the "expressions" on Lucy Lawless' face.

I'm glad Gabrielle's obsession was switched to "herself", if only because it gave us that great scene where we watch Xena's face grow hopeful and then become crestfallen over Gabrielle's realization of who her perfect partner would be.

:guffaw:

Things I loved?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xjvn0yN-O24

Too many to count, but Xena pulling her sword on Gabrielle to show her how obsessed she was... and Gabby using it as a mirror to check herself out in it, is in the top 5. :rommie:

So's that pink negligee... "Soft like baby Monkey."

Fav lines?

(Gabrielle turns to Xena after looking at the sexual positions on the wall of the temple.)
Gabrielle: (Looks shocked) “That’s not humanly possible.”
Xena: (Looks over her shoulder at the figures) “Sure it is.”

video unavailable

(Xena has just hugged Gabrielle, in order to cut a swatch of hair for her fishing lure. Gabby isn't amused.)
Gabrielle: “Xena! I have something really important I need to speak to you about. Do these boots work with this skirt? Ow! You cut my hair?”
Xena:
(Oblvious) “Uh-huh.”
Gabrielle: “My little, golden fleece?”
Xena:
“It’s perfect.”
Gabrielle: “Of course, it’s perfect. It’s my hair.”

:)

Xena: (Her kite has landed prematurely) “Gabrielle?! Monkey-man, you bring her back! You know, you two are beginning to irritate me with these obsessions of yours! FISH DON'T JUST CATCH THEMSELVES!"

Xena’s Voice: “Gabrielle?!”
Joxer/Attus: "Ahhh, Great White Monkey Xena come for Princess Gaea..."

and

Joxer/Attus: (As crossbolts fly at him) “Hmm. Attus not afraid! Attus King of jungle! (Crossbolt hits between his legs) Ow! Hmm? Attus renounce throne.”

Gabby's theme song was cute, but Xena's reaction to it was even better.

Gabrielle: “It (the scroll) just doesn’t have a point of view. You know, it needs more verve more character more, more of me. It doesn’t sing to me like this. Actually, that’s a great idea. A scroll should be sung, not told.
[Sings]
“Well, listen to my story about Gabrielle--
A cute little gal that’s lookin’ really swell.
Perfect hair, such a lovely lass--
Nice round breasts and a firm young a-- ”

Xena: (runs up and puts her hand over Gabby's mouth) “Are you out of your mind?!”
Gabrielle:
“Too loud? Ar-are you worried we’re gonna get there and the fish’ll be gone?”
Xena: “I’m worried we’re gonna get there and the fish’ll be armed.”

:techman:

Three theme songs already rejected by TPTB for this ep:

A neat series of interviews with Lucy Lawless "back in the day". Not sure if its the vid's audio or my speakers, but the sound is a little iffy.

Loved the part about her "throwing a t-shirt on" over her costume and running to the bank at lunchtime. Since Xena wasn't televised in New Zealand, people didn't recognize the outfit, and when they'd ask her she'd just say she was an exotic dancer.

:bolian:

Which, considering some of the shows she did... WASN'T a lie.

It': "You know what the chain of command is? It's the chain I beat you with until you realize I'm in command!"

'Fins, Femmes and Gems' is funny ep, just nice dumb fun after some of the serious eps we've had this season, love the Aphrodite in the temple scene, love them making fun of Lucy's fishing obsession and Gabby's vanity. Not so keen on the Joxer stuff (they seem to have had an exotic selection of animals in ancient Greece). All told though, good fun

Yeah... Hippos in Greece?

Oh wait... Why should Xena have anything to do with reality. Afterall this is the show that not only has Xena & Gabrielle fluent in all languages from Japan to Britannia, but Xena can read Chinese!

At least they had her unable to read Japanese. :)

Gabrielle: “Xena! You OK? You know, you had me worried for a minute, there.”
Xena: “I’m sorry about that. I had to go back for something.”
Macon: “Why? I’m a killer. Why’d you come back? What’d you expect?”
Xena: “From you-- nothin’. From me, nothin’ less.”

:sigh:

The little sister in me loved it when big brother "Brand" showed up in "The Goonies" to save "Mikey", or when big brother Mike was sent by Elliot to save E.T.

The little kid in me loves a hero... and NOTHING says hero like that great line from the woman struggling to walk upright through the surf/across the wet sand with Gabrielle hanging on to her with such relief.

Xena: “From you-- nothin’. From me, nothin’ less.”

We expect her to risk her life to save Gabrielle, or even to save Autolycus, or some nameless/faceless villager who's in the wrong place at the wrong time.

But to save a killer?

Who'd do that?

I mean... besides Lao Ma?

Xena has learned her lessons from Lao Ma well.

Lao Ma: "Heaven endures-- and the Earth lasts a long time, because they do not live for themselves. Therefore, she would live a long time, should live for others, serve others."
Xena: "I could serve you, if that's what you mean."
Lao Ma: "Of course, you can. It's easy to serve someone you love. You feel it will make them love you more. It's like a good business investment. That's not what I'm talking about."

Loved the teaser with the Palm Reader for all the injokes...

Palm reader: (To Gabrielle) “You’re going on a long voyage. I see a man on this voyage.”
Xena: “Let me guess, tall, dark, and handsome, right?”
Palm reader: “As a matter of fact, he is.”
Xena: “Right. Come on, Gabrielle.”
Gabrielle: “Give her a chance. You see, we’re not going on a voyage. We just needed some supplies. We were passing through.”
Palm reader: “Perhaps, I misread.”
Xena: “Perhaps." (To Gabby) "Sorry. Your dinar.”
Gabrielle: “Have another look. What? What is it?”
Xena: “All right, Gabrielle, that’s enough. Come on, please.”
Palm reader: “No! There’s danger, great danger, and death.”
Gabrielle: (To Xena as they walk away) “Did you hear that? She just described every day of our lives.”
Xena:
“Hmm.”
:guffaw:

That last line reminds me of the time someone pointed out how many people around Jessica Fletcher ended up "dead", and was SHE the murderer? (She of "Murder She Wrote" fame)

Shocking things about the ep?

The fact that it was GABRIELLE with the big smackdown fight this week, creaming 3 or 5 sailors in her attempt to speak to Autolycus. :techman:

Xena never had to deal with more than 1 guy at a time. ;)

Xena's acumen continues to amaze me. This week we learn she's adept in identifying the signs and smells of an erupting volcano, and she's totally aware of what preceeds a tidal wave.

I just nearly had a cow, when she and Gabby looked up and they saw that "wall of water" bearing down on them.

Poor Xena nearly had a cow when she couldn't find Gabrielle in the wreckage. :weep:

Loved the line when she realized Gabs was okay...
Xena: “Good, ‘cause I need your help. Come on.”

She sure knows how to buck up the troops, doesn't she? :)

Speaking of troops, I also love the no-nonsense way she dealt not only with the frightened Petrodes (Voice calm, swift backhand across his face to get his attention, then a simple command, “Petrodes, you take this lever, and you get to work.) and with the guilty Autolycus (“Well, excuse me, I must’ve mistaken you for a man who once risked his life to save mine.”)

Its nice to know that people not only remember the good you did for them nearly 18 months ago, but that they still appreciate it. None of this, "What have you done for me lately" stuff with Xena.

Speaking of "Xena", this was a pretty low key week in one sense. No huge fights to deal with, no flips after the ones that landed her on the ship. No kicks. Only 1 chakram throw.

But that's okay.

What she had to do was harder than most weeks, she had to get these people to stay calm, she had to get these people to work together, and she had to figure out how they were going to escape this watery grave.

Gabrielle: (Talking about the unconscious Captain)“I don’t know. He’s lost a lot of blood.”
Xena: “His pulse is weak. He’s in shock.”
Gabrielle: “I’d say that goes for all of us, trapped in here until we run out of air, or luck.”
Xena: “We’ll just try and keep him as warm as we can.”
Gabrielle: (she stretches out her hand but uses it to cover Xena's) “What are we going to do?”
Xena: “I’m workin’ on it.”

I didn't warm to the May December marriage of Thaddeus and Soroya, but I did like the contrast of her life and Gabrielle's. Her husband was so afraid of her dying, he was stifling her life. I wondered what Gabrielle was thinking, when she heard how controlling the husband was, in his efforts to keep the wife safe.

To view this content we will need your consent to set third party cookies.

I suspect, after nearly three years of following Xena around, and being anything BUT safe, Gabrielle thought it was pretty surreal. :rommie:

Thaddeus: “No, I just wanted you safe. You can’t stay with me. I’d hold you back. You’d never make it. Tell her!”
Gabrielle: “She’s on a roll.”
Soraya: “I can’t live like this, Thaddeus, not anymore. You’ve got to stop trying to shield me from things, and learn to trust that I won’t break, or melt, or die! At least, not yet. I’m your wife. You’re my husband. And soon, we’re gonna be a family.”

You know, speaking of "family"... speaking of someone you love so much you have repeatedly told them of that very fact... that "one hand covering the other's" scene while talking about the Captain going into shock... and their final exchange/hand clasp scene before they parted to swim for safety, seemed very minimalistic.

Episode 66 season 3 #20 "Vanishing Act"

Oh gawd.

Okay... its time for some truth between us.

I can't "do" Vanishing Act".

Actually, I did discover a way to tolerate it.

I watch it from the beginning of the teaser... and STOP once either actress starts wearing her "nontraditional" garb... I restart it when they are back in their usual costume.

Well... I prefer to restart it AFTER Gabrielle pulls off that fake mole.

I can only tolerate Lucy's accent in the final scene, which shows a LITTLE of it goes a LONG way.

The best thing?

Watching Xena watch Gabrielle as Autolycus kisses her.

The second best thing?

Watching Gabrielle wait for Autolycus to kiss HER.

The third best thing...

I don't think there WAS a third best thing. :(

I know I've laughed about the unreality of the show... but watching Autolycus come out of the sea with a diving helmet FULL of holes, made me just want to cry in shame. :brickwall:

Oh well, all I know is the TPTB i.e. the producer, the director, the stars... even admit what a rotten ep this was, in hindsight.

Thank the gods this WASN'T the pilot! :ack:

Back to "Fins, Femmes, and Gems" for a sec - I laugh myself silly every time at Joxer's line when he swings into that tree and nails himself in the 'nads: "Attus glad that over."
:guffaw:

^^Or when he takes Gabby out to "dinner" and she says... "No thanks, I had a late breakfast." then when she realizes what comes "after" the meal (Zug Zug) she decides she's really in the mood for ants after all. :rommie:

ETA: Sometimes I dispute the transcriptions at whoosh. I just noticed another discrepancy, and wonder if its a case of hearing issues vs wishful thinking on the transcriptionist's part. The section in question is when the barbarians corner Gabrielle after she stole the diamond from them.

Maecanus: “You’re trapped. Now, give us the diamond, and we’ll make sure your loved ones can identify the body.”

Gabrielle: “This body.”

Maecanus: “Hmm.”

Gabrielle: “Are you insane? Have you no understanding of absolute, inviolate cuddliness?”

Maecanus, Thug, Joker: “Hmm?”

I thought she was saying, "inviolate comeliness".

Opinions?

Yeah, not that great but always nice to see Autolycus team up with the girls and I quite like Gabby recreating her character from Miss Amphipilous

Was THAT the accent she used for Amphipolis?

:ack:

On the other hand... it was no where NEAR as jarring as the Fran Drescher impersonation that Xena was doing.

I loved the part 1 commentary (can't find it on you tube) where Hudson says, as Callisto and Xena start their first sword play of the ep.. "and now the foreplay". :rommie:

What an interesting commentary on how good people can be so easily led astray. Not only was Sarafin (I refuse to spell it like the angel) ready to kill herself for "Hope" [in all its meanings] , she was ready to sacrifice the people of Earth at the same time.

Sarafin: “Look, it’s not as blind as you think. Yes, I know Dahok has a plan. And yes, I know people must die. But it’s for the greater good.”

The one thing I didn't like in this ep, was that it was unclear how ARES was led astray. If one blinked at the wrong time, you would have easily missed his side chat with (I presume) a manifestation of Dahok.

I did like how Ares "called in" his debt with Gabrielle. Liked it because in the grand scheme of Dahok entering the world, it doesn't make any sense.

To pay off your debt to me, the Fates will kill Xena if she kills Hope????

But, since we KNOW Ares has a "thing" for Xena... and we KNOW he knows Gabrielle has a thing for Xena, and we KNOW she'll do anything and everything in her power to protect Xena... then his request makes perfect sense.

Anything.

Everything.

:weep:

Which takes us inexorably to SACRIFICE part 2.
