Any Xena:WP fans on the boards?

^^I was fortunate to pick up the 6 seasons along with the 10th anniv set for $116 at Amazon. It had been listed higher, but the day I finally "pulled the trigger" and bought the darn thing it had dropped. I see its back to $122 a box set and its not clear from the current ad if the 10th anniv box comes with it now. Still, when you compare it to the new dvd sets of Voyager that were initally $129 a season... I felt fortunate indeed!

Any suggestions for Xena vids?

I've been sharing a few on the Voyager board to tempt newbies into the fold.

So far I've used...

I've got all the seasons of Xena, but of course there are some key episodes missing because of the occasional crossover to Herc. My ideal boxed set collection would be the entire Callisto and Hope arcs brought together from both shows, in sequence, as one great big adventure.

Plus add the modern day clip shows from Hercules, they're wonderful!

No, they're not part of the Callisto/Hope arc. I want to watch that story straight thru, period.

I've always thought it would be fun to go to a convention or Halloween party as Joxer with two girls dressed as Xena and Gabrielle. If only I knew a blonde and a brunette/dark-haired dame I could do that with. :)

I, too, watched X:WP and H:TLJ during their first-runs on television back in the mid-1990s to early 2000s. I liked X:WP a bit more than H:TLJ, but what I *especially* liked could be found on *both* series ...

... namely, the Amazon Nation! Ephiny. Solari. Velasca. Mayem. Eponin. Siri. All of those names (and more!) still resonate with me to this day, and have inspired fanfiction with the Amazons as the centerpiece of the stories.

For the record, I spotted at least two XENA's at the NY Comic Con this weekend . . . .

I just thought of a great storyline for Barney from 'How I met your mother'! All the better if we could get Lucy and Renee to cameo

The modern day Hercules clip shows are terrific and they do have Hudson in them although not as Callisto

Wait JUST a minute... are you saying there are Xena/Gabrielle stories over in Hercules TLJ that I HAVEN'T seen yet? Or just additional chapters of Callisto's story that I haven't seen. (I know Herc threw her into some sort of dungeon, since Xena freed her from it.)

I have finally seen the 3 eps from Herc that spawned the Xena series. If Ephiny and gang show up in later seasons of Herc... I might just have to go looking for them!

Was Hudson in the mordern Herc clip show a good guy or a bad guy?

The Callisto and hope stories bridged both series - it was a bunch of crossovers. Callisto became immortal, for example, on an episode of Herc. And I think we saw her time-travel back to Xena's attack on her village, where we see who REALLY killed her parents, on a Herc ep. You can only see the WHOLE Callisto/Hope epic if you have both series. Personally, I'm not interested in buying Herc, which is why I'd like to see that as a boxed set.

^^Looks like I'd have to pick up season 4 of Herc to see the other Hope ep...

I just discovered that Callisto, AKA Hudson Leick, auditioned for the role of Seven of Nine on Voyager.

I see her as such an "out of control" character on Xena, I couldn't imagine her as the tightly wound ex-Borg.

She popped up several years ago on CSI, as a kinky dentist.

I don't remember that one (Though I'll certainly have seen it). I'll have to go and check it out.

Besides the recent Xena re-watch, the last time I'd seen her in anything was probably the pilot of Tru Calling

I rewatched "Sin Trades" last night, and I wonder, for those of you who watched it "first run" was there a real concern in early season 4 that Gabrielle WASN'T going to come back?

Imagine what would have been missed, had the character been "replaced" a'la the revolving Dr Who sidekicks. (And yes, I love Dr Who.)

Hudson Leick was awesome as Xena in the body-switch episode. I can imagine her doing well in a completely different role.

Good point there. :techman:

You really got the feeling that Xena was in there, much more so than when Bruce Campbell or Renee channeled her in "The Quest".

It amazed me to think that Lucy came back to shooting just a couple months after fracturing her pelvis in 4 places.

I hated that last episode so much. What a terrible series finale. The tone was completely out of sync with the rest of the series. It was so dark (in terms of cinematography and story) and full of boring characters we'd never seen before. The last episode of Xena should have been a joyful event that took advantage of the excellent supporting cast. Instead, we got some pretentious wannabe samurai epic that was a complete failure as an entertainment and wasted its cast of characters.

I think it was a TV Guide review that compared setting the final episode of Xena in Japan to setting the series finale of Gunsmoke on a pirate ship.

Shakespeare's sonnets (although maybe not all written with that intention) are structured in the way that suggests that they are about two different love interests (so to speak): 1-126 are supposedly dedicated to the "Fair Youth" and 127-152 to the "Dark Lady".

BTW, the Dark Lady was Martha Jones.:p

"Early years" Gabrielle, or later years?

For me, I think it depends on what mood I'm in, dominant or submissive.

Hmmmmm..... I know a brunette & a blonde. Both are avid costumers (mostly Star Wars, Resident Evil, and they're trying to start a Legend of the Seeker costuming group). I wonder if I'd be able to recruit them...:shifty:
