Any Xena:WP fans on the boards?

More speculation on the reboot rumor... just rumor or testing the waters?

http://www.geek.com/news/lucy-lawless-backtracks-on-xena-reboot-comments-1628997/

Not sure who Katie Wilson is, but she's very excited about a possible Xena reboot.

Laughed at the point that she got most of her knowledge of mythology from Xena, and that was why she was only right 65 % of the time.

In other words... I missed this 3 days ago. :alienblush:

And 1 day ago they were still quoting the same line, so it was not retracted in hours like the last time around.

Unfortunately it looks like NBC can't see Lucy as anything other than a distraction from the sound of it. :brickwall:

When I re-read those NBC quotes, I wondered if they are merely publicity hyperbole and not an example of the lack of understanding of our original Warrior Princess.

Sources tell THR that the new, modern Xena would have to have the charisma and charm of Lawless and the smarts of The Hunger Games' Katniss as producers are said to be looking for a sophisticated and smart superhero for a new generation.

One of the things I came to love about this show was how smart our heroine really was, the fact that she often not only outsmarted her enemy, she could do it even when being driven mad by "The Furies".

Despite her "demigod" level strength and her unabashed tendency to unleash same, it is her intelligence that often wins the day.

Simply look to season 1 when she reasoned her way through Morpheus' dreamscape, outsmarted Ares to escape execution in "The Reckoning" or discovered the true leader in "The Black Wolf" for early examples of her insight and guile.

Of course, NBC will need to woo people who (like me before September, 2010) merely saw a beautiful woman in a skimpy leather outfit when she thought of Xena. People who have no conception how progressive the show often was.

So progressive that I take exception at this next line from the geek article.

While Xena spun out of the Hercules show, she was a character that stood well on her own. The show may seem dated now, but the message it sent to fans across the globe still rings true to many who look for strong and striking female leads.

Dated?

I fell in love with it and saw it for the first time just 2 years before the 1st HG movie came out!

But who can stop at just one? Here's one guy's attempt to celebrate NBC's "possible" news.

Yup... started 1 month before this thread.

I binged all 6 seasons in less than a month.

I keep finding things I've missed in my current events round up.

Lucy posted this on her twitter account, casting suggestions for the next Xena.

http://www.shewired.com/film/2015/0...-warrior-princess-reboot#.VbjmOI4WV80.twitter

And not to mix my threads too much, but here's Ruby Rose's response that SHE be considered as a Xena avatar.

https://twitter.com/RubyRose/status/626428343357812736

blasphemy! There is only one XENA! Although I take that as a huge compliment
I agree with Ruby... and I have to admit to a certain Xena bias. Other than the OBVIOUS Lucy Lawless preference, naturally.

When Piper Chapman towers over Stella in Orange is the New Black, you know Ruby's too danged SHORT to play the Warrior Princess. :alienblush:

And Speaking of OitNB... although I love Laura Prepon as Alex.... I just can't see her throwing a chakram with any sort of authority. :vulcan:

Oh... and I don't care WHAT century the reboot lands in, there darned well BETTER BE a Chakram in it! :klingon:

Something else Lucy tagged in her twitter file.

I started watching in March of 2010. I wasn't even aware of the show during it's run. What a sad existence I led:(

Laura Prepon as Xena? How insulting!

Yeah, that is weird. I have nothing against her, but as Xena? Honestly, most of the suggestions on that article were bizarre (Natalie Portman? Come on, that suggestion is borderline trolling). I really think Xena is a case of them already having had the perfect actress, and I can't see anyone getting close to taking her spot. Still, there are probably people closer than the ones in that article.

That said, Lucy still kicks ass. An older, wiser Xena could easily be awesome. But, I suppose in an industry that loves reboots and isn't always kind to older actresses, seeing Lucy as Xena again is probably as likely as me going into my backyard right now and finding Bigfoot :(

Lucy once told a story (I think in one of the podcasts for XWP) about how things have changed in Hollywood since the start of the original series.

She noted that actresses on TV were getting "younger" everyday and her husband was "kind" enough  to point out that by current standards, she and Renee at the ages they were in 1998 would be considered "too old" to play X&G. :wtf:

Talk about BLASPHEMY!

Most of the women in that article, if not all, are unsuitable for XWP in my not so humble opinion. :alienblush:

Then again, Rob Tapert found the PERFECT Xena after doing a couple seasons on a New Zealand Comedy TV show, so if she's out there, those people writing the articles are looking in the wrong places.

Well, technically Tapert found Lawless playing an Amazon on a new syndicated TV show called "Hercules: The Legendary Journeys". ;)

This next link has nothing to do with new actresses, I just like the flow in the art. :)

This is a very OLD NPR interview with Lucy, Rob and Sharon Delany of Xena Fan club fame.

http://robtapert.com/2012/11/2001-n...wless-rob-tapert-audio-files-back-online.html

Its worth posting for several reasons. :vulcan:

First, since they are talking about the END of the TV show in 2001, they also talk about "what will happen in 20 years" when TPTB want to reboot the show. :p

Second, Lucy sings "Anything you can do" at the end with the interviewer! :bolian:

ETA: don't forget to download the "out takes" too.

Simon: Are they real?
Lawless: Silence then laughter.
Simon: Oh my, I beg your pardon Miss Lawless. Oh I've done it now. :guffaw:

This was recently published but its from comic con.

Which means its over a month old, before NBC's acknowledgement that they were interested in the franchise.

UK fans (?) of LL and ROC can go here to support a call for a "new" Xena with the "original" crew.

If you belong to the "Book of Face", you might want to hook up with this older Xena campaign.

Tumblr has an opinion on the Xena reboot casting.

Just a reminder from a 21st century documentary, that a Modern Xena could still look really cool.

Here's another interview done this year before the furor over NBC, which includes Lucy's idea on how to do a remake "with yet without" her.

http://www.lucylawless.net/2015/06/article-scans-emmy-magazine-interviews-l.html

It includes stuff about nuBSG and Spartacus.

This Aussie fan site is also running a twitter acct devoted to the reboot rumors.

Not good news from someone who's claimed to have interviewed her recently.

Bummer.

We can still hope that lightening will strike twice.
