Any Special Plans for Christmas Period ?

If I'm at home it's Christmas as my mothers, boxing day at my grans... though the in laws have Christmas dinner at the mother in laws, boxing day at the FIL's and back to the MIL's for Hogmanay...

This year I'm not sure. I'm very tempted to stay home and be alone - but no matter what I'll spend the new year at my company's head referee's house. I have a long yea ahead so I'd rather spend Hogmany with friends...

Same thing I do ever Xmas, struggle to get through it and repress thoughts of suicide. Nothing really special about that.

Hope your holiday goes okay. Feel free to PM me if you ever want to talk about anything!

I'm hoping to meet a friend I haven't seen since high school graduation, but that's contingent on my latest plane ticket not becoming useless due to weather conditions again.

Good luck with the weather! I've been meeting with friends that are back in state for Christmas. My best friend from high school is back in town, so I'm hoping to see him before we're too busy with family.

Cool thread :techman:

We're not doing anything huge, but I have the week off which is awesome. I'm planning on outlining the rest of my book, and likely adding some sections here and there.

On Christmas we'll have the kids over - I'm cooking a Christmas ham, just like my grandmother always did. :bolian:

Oooh, what's the book on? Also I'm impressed by the idea of cooking a Christmas ham, because I've never even seen such a thing. You must take pictures and let us know how it goes!

I'll just be spending a quiet, low key Christmas at home with my wife and children this year. Assuming that the weather is good my oldest daughter will drive out to my place for a little while on Christmas Day. My youngest daughter leaves to visit her BF on the 28th, but she'll be home for Christmas.

For Christmas period I have homeroom, good time to sit back and do the homework I forgot to do the day before. It's also helpful because it's also my 5th hour so it's longer because of lunch.

Oh, it's just a regular ham cooked on Christmas! ;)

The book is hard sci-fi --- it's about war, philosophy, trauma, and poetry. ;)

Thank you! The weather looks good. Fingers crossed.

Most hams you buy at the store are already cooked, so it's just a matter of heating them up in the oven.

Ham is great.

You're ruining the magic and mystery! I will continue to be impressed by anyone who cooks a Christmas ham. :p

Well, I will say that it takes some talent to make a ham taste really good. A ham without a fancy glaze or anything on it can be pretty bland.

Going to my Mom's on Christmas Day for dinner, might stop by for a hello on Xmas Eve at a friend's house. I'm not much in the mood to go out and about: I'm supposed to be on a beach on the other side of the world right now, but I had to get my gallbladder taken out. So I'm just keeping a slow pace for the next week and a bit, trying to make the most of the -30° weather. :vulcan:

Yeah, I've never actually seen a ham cooked. My family has never had one, and my in-laws always do turkey.

Okay, cool. I'll make sure to include some pictures. I'm not the genius with ham my grandmother is - she used to make crackling, and glaze the ham, etc. But we do all right.

Ham is roasted similarly to turkey, but it doesn't take as long. Ham comes cooked in most cases, so really it's just a matter of heating it up. Some spiral hams (already cut) come with instructions. You should definitely try it some time, it's definitely worth it! We usually freeze a bunch of the ham for later use (typically lunches).

Or you could get a country ham that is preserved in salt and is the saltiest thing I've ever eaten (and I once ate a bag of salt).

Apparently on next Monday we're going to a museum for some reason. I have no idea but it's pretty much become tradition to go to downtown Chicago every time we visit.
