Any recommendations for near future sci-fi reads?

I'm actually just working my way through my Ben Bova 'Grand Tour' collection again and wondered if any of you guys an gals could recommend something of a similar ilk?

I've got Kim Stanley Robinson's MARS TRILOGY and Robert Zubrin's FIRST LANDING waiting in the wings.

Any others I should give a try?

ed.-Robinson has the 3 Californias novels too. The Gold Coast sounds like what you are looking for, as well.

PS Just realised where I recognised the name Allen Steele! I started reading COYOTE some while back and was somewhat put off by the present tense style. Might revisit that!

Have you checked out Robinson's 40 Days of Rain trilogy? Very Near Future about Global Climate Change.

@Mistral: Yea I'd been eyeing that one, though my interest is more 'space' oriented. I'll see how I progress with the Mars Trilogy though. Thanku!

@Greg: Actually, it was the EW novels that were part inspiration for my current fanfic trilogy (which I know you're not allowed to read btw!) exploring 2026-2053 era of Trekdom.

Read the Vernor Vinge. An accurate vision of my child's world, IMO.

I would recommend James P. Hogan's original Giants trilogy, beginning with Inherit the Stars. I'm sure that certain aspects of it may now be outdated, but at the time I read it, it left me thinking 'Wow' when I finished.
