Any other series that has action scenes as good as Disco?

Lexx Shrapnel

Lieutenant Commander
Red Shirt
If not why did it take so long for the action scenes to become serviceable?

I am talking about phaser shootouts and hand to hand fights first and foremost.

If you mean Star Trek series: I loved the TOS fight scenes* and the DS9/VOY ship battles impressed me at the time, during the '90s.

I think it all comes down to choreography, special effects, pacing, and what's possible at the time.

* My absolute favorite being when Kirk beat the crap out of Finnegan in "Shore Leave". I'm not going to lie. There are some people I know from high school that I would've loved to have taken a swing at but never did (except for a few times, but we won't get into that. ). I used to know someone exactly like Finnegan. Watching that scene is highly cathartic. "I always wanted to be beat the tar out of him." But anyway...

That's gotta be one of the longest 1-on1 fights ever filmed for television.

Everything was too dark and dingy to make anything out. The action scenes in DS9 were better

Disco had good action scenes?
Michelle Yeoh lands one of the best kicks I've seen. You were asking of Discovery had good action scenes.. in a show with Michelle Yeoh.. just throwing that out there. one minute 21. But maybe it is too dark to see on your monitor for some reason. This is probably the best fight scene in Trek

TOS has the best hand-to-hand fights in Star Trek period. They knew how to go all-out.

Berman-Era Trek was a lot tighter-lipped and more buttoned-up. So that's why the hand-to-hand stuff isn't as good. Too restrained. That being said, Worf -- especially in DS9 -- knows how to fight. "Apocalypse Rising", "Looking for par'Mach in All the Wrong Places", and especially "Tacking into the Wind" are Worf at his most bad-ass.

For phaser fights, my three absolute favorites are in: "Rocks and Scoals" (DS9), "The Siege of AR-558" (DS9), and "What's Past Is Prologue" (DSC). I don't give a shit if you don't like Discovery. Forget everything else about it. You have to admit, that's a phaser fight.

Still think STD has good battles?

As far as space battles, once they switched over from models to CGI in DS9, VOY, & ENT, it freed them up to do some pretty elaborate fleet battles. I'd say all of those shows had some examples of battles equivalent to or exceeding the ones in DSC, DS9 especially.

DSC did do exceptionally well on the energy weapon and melee fighting front though, with some excellent fight choreography. DS9 and ENT come closest, but even in Way of the Warrior with Worf at his Worfiest, there were times where it obvious the Klingon redshirts were politely waiting their turn to step forward and be bashed senseless by his Mek'leth, even the ones standing behind him.
