any one else sick of the arrogant mac vs pc ads?

i'm getting sick and tired of seeing how Apple belittles Pc systems in its ads, to me its counter-productive, do they actually think they are THAT trendy???

yes i've had macs, i even at one time owed my emplyment to apple as a mac tecnician (yes macs DO break, yes macs DO crash) my personal preference however is for PCs, macs just seem like playtoys to me...

and now this is what i think of every time i see one of those damn ads...

The only thing I've ever heard people say about those ads is that they make them sympathetic to the nice but nerdy PC guy, vs the smarmy, I'm-so-hip Justin Long, who people* apparently would like to beat to death with a baseball bat. :rommie:

*By people, I mean guys. Guys seem to really hate Justin Long a great deal, or maybe it's just those ads.

i am actually kindof curious how many people actually believe the apple propoganda.

i'll be the first to admit that nothing is perfect, but mac definately isnt either!

I use PC at home, Mac at work. (It's an ad agency - Macs are standard in the graphic design industry.) I gotta say, having a Mac at work is nice. I much prefer the interface. But they are cheap-ass Macs and not particularly stable or shall we say, speedy. :D

Then again, my PC at home is ancient. It's a wash.

You can read "arrogance" into them if you're looking for it, I guess.

I've supported Macs and PCs for almost 20 years.

Apple got it right. Not talking about corporate decisions regarding marketing or remaining proprietary, but as a long-term company Apple products themselves generally have it all over Windows machines and third-party devices.

When companies make things that work, they form loyal followings. And some people who have never (or rarely) tried those companies' products sometimes look at loyal customers as idiots or sheep, or the company as "arrogant", applying their own negative image onto something that isn't there.

More so than the condescending nature of the ads is the fact that they had no effect on making me want to consider switching to a Mac. In that, they failed, for me.

I hate those commercials. I used to have a mac, it had it's fair share of problems too. Now I have a PC, and no, it's not perfect either, but I like it a lot better than the Macs, and I don't have anywhere near as many problems as those commercials make it out like there are. Even people who HAVE PCs and complain about Vista, I've had no problems with Vista whatsoever... The only problems my computer has is with the fan, it overheats a little easily. But it's an HP laptop, they're known to have that problem, It's not a programming problem, it's an equipment that a laptop cooling pad takes care of.

I have always used a PC, no problems...I see no reason to go with mac...plus I got an iPod Touch and it stopped working...never had another MP3 player do that.

[edit] Yes I could do without them, very annoying. I find the DC Vs Marvel on youtube more entertaining.

I haven't watched any of them recently, but the ones I've seen in the past were more cute than arrogant. They pretty much depicted Mac and PC in a sort of sibling rivalry type of situation. Yeah, usually Mac gets the last word in 'cause it's Apple's commercial, but the tone isn't mean, just jibing a bit.

The very first ads in the series *were* really slanted and annoying. Once they figured out how to throw a bit of humor in they got better.

Microsoft's ads "responding" to these just demonstrated that they didn't get it, on the other hand...

They started off "cute" but they've gotten more and more flagrant and asanine as of late. And, yeah, it makes one feel sorry for "PC."

"Hi I'm a Mac"
"And I'm a PC. Hey, Mac, I've got some really great achievement I want to share with you!"
"That's great, PC. But I'm only going to take this achievement of yours, smack you in the face with it, and tell you that I can do it better or just simply remind you of your past failures while also making generalized and often wrong claims about PCs and Macs!"

I do kind of like how Microsoft has taken the "concept" with their "I'm a PC" ads showing the wide variety of people who use PCs who are no stuffy middle-aged men in suit and glasses who are only concerned about business.

I hated them from day one. When they first started I thought, huh? Does Apple think it's still 1997? There was a valid rivalry 10 years ago, but now I think anybody who uses a computer can understand that both Macs and Windows have their upsides and downsides.

For me, a huge downside is how the cheapest Mac you can buy is $1000. That pretty much trumps all their "Macs are easier to use", "Macs get less viruses" claims from the commercials, which I don't put much stock in in the first place.

the only problem i ever had with vista was that after i upgraded my FX card to initially install Vista, it still wasnt good enough, i would get artifacts constantly on the screen when using autocad. had to upgrade a lil further. other than that, vista was smooth sailing to me.

and so far 7 works just fine too :bolian:

As someone who is happy to use whatever computer is nearest to him and will hop between Windows 7 and Snow Leopard with ease I find the ads pretty disingenuous. It's almost 2010, any new computer is pretty god damn good at what they do now, get over yourselves Apple.

good point!

I hate that kind of "advertising" in general. I hate Quizno's jabs at Subway too, or Pizza Huts' attempts, and Burger King's attacks on McDonald's. It's not advertising, it's besmirching the competition when you have nothing better to compete with.

They've pretty much taken the game the politicians play and gone pro with it.

Right on the money.
I say that as someone who likes both Mac and Windows based systems (I like Linux too but they're not in this fight).

It's pretty much what any company that's number two in it's particular market is expected to do, though. Mac wants to bring down PC, Pepsi wants to bring down Coca-Cola, Burger King wants to bring down McDonald's. I can't remember the official name for this type of advertising--there is one--but when you've have only one more competitor to top, the thinking process is that this is the time for a head-on attack.

Huh, I've always LIKED the ads myself. I couldn't care less which system is better than the other (I use a PC myself); I just think they're kinda fun and witty.

"Let's cut to commercial"
"We are a commercial."
:D

In fact I know it's kinda sad, but if I see a new one while fast-forwarding, I'll actually stop and watch it. lol
