Any news about The War Games DVD?

Same here. I think this will leave The Ice Warriors, The Krotons, and The Dominators as the remaining Troughtons for DVD, w/The Ice Warriors requiring reconstruction.

True dat. True dat. I think we get just enough Troughton in "The Three Doctors" & "The Five Doctors." They could have used more of him in "The Two Doctors" though. Instead, we're stuck with Colin Baker, Peri, & Jamie for most of the story while Troughton is chained up in a basement.

And Peri's not even wearing a bikini in it, either :(

True dat. In fact, it seems obvious that the whole affair would have been much more watchable on so many levels if Peri had been the one chained up in the basement instead... wearing a bikini... gagged.:p

So little left of Troughtons era, its a shame to see it coming to a end so quick.

True, but at the same time, who is to say they aren't working on animated reconstructions right now? They work on these things in secret for years before they're ever announced. It's entirely possible they may be working on The Highlanders (for example) right now.

I can only hope that's true, but I'm not holding my breath. If they are working on a reconstruction, I'm hoping for either The Faceless Ones or The Abominable Snowmen. However, I bet if they do are working on any, it's The Ice Warriors (or The Tenth Planet).

^I've often thought about what I would do if I won the lottery. My new pet idea is funding animated reconstructions of all the missing Patrick Troughton episodes (and all of the early William Hartnell episodes with Susan, Ian, & Barbara).

There was an enigmatic quote from Dan Hall a few months back where he was asked about animations/reconstructions, and said something along the lines of "there may be something in the pipeline". I'll see if I can find the interview.

Edit:

This is the report from Doctor Who Online. I can't seem to provide a direct link, so just scroll down to 18th March. Two stories "in development" - presumably Tenth Planet and Ice Warriors?

Future animated episodes on DVD
News Dated: 18/3/2009

2|entertain discuss the future of animated stories.

Recently there have been a number of rumours online stating that there will be no further animated Doctor Who episode reconstructions, but speaking to Doctor Who Online, Dan Hall, Commissioning Editor for the 2|entertain Doctor Who DVD range, has revealed that this is not the case.

Contrary to rumour, two further animated stories are in development. Two of the core production team have been working on these projects for several months now. The commissions are by no means guaranteed, but the stories have been decided and negotiations are underway. This had not been announced for the reason that this early in the process we cannot promise a title on the shelf, which is why I feel it is important to set the record straight at this juncture.

But with the development of more animated stories, funding is an important issue, with some fans even offering to help out, but as Dan goes on to explain, the matter is a little more complex.

What is little known is that 2|entertain was not the major funder of The Invasion - it was brought to us near-complete. The funding model proved unavailable for the follow-up release. Pre-production work was cancelled shortly after a short test scene had been animated. This left future animation commissions with a massive shortfall.

Whilst offers from fans to fund projects is very generous, it is simply not workable from a legal or commercial standpoint. Solving this financial shortfall has been worked on these past 24 months. Low-cost animations that fall below standard are not an option, artistically or commercially. BBC Audiobooks provide brilliant linking narrations that fire the most active imaginations. Therefore, if animations are to be commissioned, they must be of a quality that does the brand proud.

Some stories have been subject to colour issues, but contrary to other rumours circulating online, 2|entertain plan to look into ways of dealing with this.

We continue to invest in Research and Development work on improving or replacing colour in those stories for which colour is either damaged or does not exist. Online statements that we are not attempting this are untrue.

The cover?

No - it's just a placeholder Amazon used (and haven't updated yet).

To be honest, it's a nice effort on behalf of them...

Probably a fan cover they found on Google images. It wouldn't be the first time.

The real one is here. Scroll down a bit.

The Amazon link now has full pack shots, including a scan of the insert, which I gather our North American friends don't get in their DVDs.

Sweet. I'm not usually keen on the UK covers but that one is pretty cool. I can't wait for the US cover.

Don't they use the same artwork now, albeit without the silly grey roundels?
Ah, I hadn't noticed that. The silly grey roundels on the UK covers ruin it for me.

Tragically, no. :scream:

Bah! All we get as an insert is the bloody BBC comment card. :(
Maybe we should actually start sending those in demanding the inserts to be included in the US releases. ;)
