Any New Series on the Trek?

Are there any new Star Trek shows being plan, as far as any of you are aware? Or is that pretty much it for the series, except for occasional movies?

Hi there fellow Marylander :)

No, there are currently no plans to create a new Star Trek series. The actors in the new JJ Abrams films are under contract for one more movie in 2016, and after the BluRay conversion of TNG, there are as yet no plans to make DS9 or VOY in HD.

I don't think we'll get a series soon until these movies run their course.

Both Bryan Singer and Dorn have expressed interest in developing their own series, but nothing is in development.

It won't be Singer or Dorn or anyone else currently or previously associated with Trek. When it comes, it will have a name from out of left-field attached to it. Much like when Abrams took over the franchise in 2007.

I can understand why the franchise went dormant, but I think the time is ripe for a new show.

I thought Dorn said there was interest in a new series around Worf as captain of his own ship? There is also Star Trek Renegades, I think that is just web episodes though?

It seemed that way to me, also, but then I realised that, perhaps, CBS is already making easy money off of the franchise, without the huge investment of starting another series. Its other properties aren't doing too badly, so just ride The Gravy Train ...

Plus given how much TV has changed since ENT went off air, and is continuing to change, there's the big question of how you do a new show, who runs it, all that kind of stuff - and with the Bad Robot films still fairly new themselves, it's a big question mark.

I reckon it'll be a good few years yet until Trek returns to the box. Could even be as long as the gap between TOS & TNG.

I'm actually surprised no networks have made the transition to airing online. Unless they do and I'm not aware of it.

I guess you could say Netflix are becoming their own network to an extent, what with House of Cards airing solely online there.

I'm sure I've heard theoretically how such a Star Trek arrangement might work, but of course given it's a franchise & so tied up with Paramount & such, it'd be highly unlikely to happen through them. Maybe one day with their own studio though, online could be a possibility...

We are currently in a new golden age of television. Everyone is joining in, with both critical and popular success. HBO and AMC have opened the doors and now everybody wants to get in on the game. Netflix and other non-broadcast-based shows are exploding.

How in the world has Star Trek not joined in?

They're missing the new golden age!

Oh ya I agree, Netflix is starting to do, they produce their own content. Next step is live streaming and viewer interactions I think.

I meant the major tv networks(CBS, ABC, NBC), they're going the way of kodak and the dodo bird if they continue to let things pass them by.
