Any Linux admins around?

I am thinking about updating my resume by getting some Linux certifications. I've played with the operating system for years and maintained servers using it at work, but never took the time to really get an in depth knowledge of it.

So, my question is, how high a level certification do you need to get before employers start to take notice?

Oh I've been a System admin for about over 15 years concentrating on microsoft platforms. I just feel that there are too many MS based general sys admins to compete with.

Which is why I asked about specializing in Linux. I've already researched the different certifications "for starters".

15 years should potentially have gained you an impressive amount of experience that would attract the attention of an employer. You might want to concentrate how you market yourself in your resume so that you are not overlooked on the first pass of selecting candidates.

I once red somewhere that the RHCA is the best to go after because it's the most recognized in the business--or at least as far as HR people are concerned.

Even a RHCE is better than a lot of other NIX certs. I guess it's an appearance thing.

Of course, I'm not an IT person nor do I hire them. It's just a common thing I've read on various NIX boards.

Yes, Red Hat certification or similar does seem appropriate for getting through the filtering applied by HR departments. I've also heard of people getting jobs on the strength of their reputation in the Linux community.
