Any Eighth Doctor fans here?

^That'sa very good point, again the Clone Wars sounded cool, then when they arrived they seemed a bit lame; partly down to Lucas but also partly down to expectation I suspect.

It couldn't possibly have lived up to our years of built up expectations, nor sadly could the prequels. The same would happen with the Time War.

I'm also a big fan of Eight and would love to see him on screen in Doctor Who again in some manner. He's great in the Big Finish audios, too, and they give you an idea what a TV series with him would have been like.

Yes, definitely a fan of Paul McGann's Eighth Doctor.

Also, I think it's great that we never saw Eight regenerate into Nine.

No one knows how old Eight was when it happened, so if we ever want to see McGann on the proper series in a multi-Doctor episode, we never have to try to explain why he looks so much older.

Though if you've seen McGann recently, he doesn't look that much older anyway. Pop the wig on again and put him in the costume and he won't look much different.

I seem to remember reading somewhere that he hated the wig and was opposed to wearing it again.

He won't turn down high profile work like that for the sake of not liking wearing the wig. He's too professional to throw a hissy fit the like of which Eccleston threw about wearing period dress in The Unquiet Dead (oh, err, allegedly). And he recognises that's who his Doctor is.

I love the Eighth Doctor. The novels around his Doctor were fantastic.

I've never heard that story before and I'm ready to call it a load of bull because I've seen him in films and TV in period clothes.

That's because when he takes a part in a period piece, he knows exactly what he's in for. I highly doubt The Unquiet Dead was written originally to have Rose in period dress but not the Doctor.

:wtf:

The Doctor never wears period clothes. Why the hell would The Unquiet Dead have been any different?

The Reign of Terror and The Talons of Weng Chiang. And those are just the ones that immediately popped into mind. I think he may have done it in Marco Polo and The Massacre, too, but I'm not sure.

Yeah, but he doesn't do it often; I'd go so far as to say extremely rarely. I don't recall Tennant wearing any either. This sounds like a totally baseless rumor designed to dig at Chris. The guy is a professional actor and I sincerely doubt he'd throw a fit about having to wear period clothes.

So in the hundreds of hours of Televised Who, he's worn period garb in only a handful of circumstances. So rarely, in fact, that the hyperbolic term "never" is quite apt.

My case is proven.

Eccleston wore period garb in the likes of Jude, Let Him Have It, The Others, that recent play about Lennon and that's just off the top of my head. The story sounds like BS.

Anyway, I always thought that part of the Doctor's character and attraction was that he virtually always dresses like himself regardless of where and when he is. Sure there may be the odd episode where he wears period dress, but I think that's called the exception that proves the rule.

Sorry, Bones, but I'm forced to come down with the rest of the squalid pack here and say there's little to be deduced from Eccleston's costuming in "The Unquiet Dead".

His departure from the series is going to be the stuff of rumor and speculation forever, I think, since the parties involved have chosen to remain politely vague about the details. So we're going to make up explanations of our own from time to time that will be kind or unkind to one person or another. The important thing is not to take any such speculation seriously until there is more than circumcision evidence to support it.

Hold on ... I think I meant 'circumstantial'. I always get those confused.

Wait ... what does 'squalid' mean again?

1) RTD never approached McGann for the role, so it's an error to say that he "robbed" McGann of anything.

2) The Eccleston story is BS, just based on the evidence of his other work, as presented by others.

3) If he returned, why would McGann even have to worry about a wig?

SCENE ONE of THE TIME WAR:
-We see snaps of hair falling to the old wooden floor, the sound of clippers chiming in as the voice of the 8th Doctor continues to elaborate a memory or story to the barber. It's the Old West, and as we pan up, the barber spins the chair around to reveal Paul McGann with a freshly cut head of short hair.

"Much better....MUCH better, Willy!" the Doctor exclaims, running fingers along his head while examining in the mirror. "I was beginning to tire of all that hair."

The last sentence is, of course, ironic given what the 9th Doctor will look like...

Boom. Done. That scene would take ten seconds of screentime while random credits floated in and out, and nothing else has to be explained. :techman:

I can actually hear McGann saying that in my head. Nice idea.
